Manufacturer's Description
If future proofing is important in selecting your DVD recorder, the new Hard Drive model DMREX75 from Panasonic will offer just that. Besides combining both DVD Recorder and high capacity Hard Drive recording in one unit, equipped with an integrated digital terrestrial tuner ready for the start of the analogue switch off, now just a couple of years away.

They also boast an HDMI terminal and the technology to upscale standard definition material to high definition quality. Perfect partners for the latest HD panels.

The DMREX75 includes a 160GB hard drive which is capable of recording up to 284 hours of footage (in EP Mode) and it?s not just TV content that you are able to store. DMREX75 models have an SD card slot and JPEG digital photos can also be transferred to the hard drive for convenient storage and luxuriant playback!

An integrated Freeview recorder is an increasingly popular choice for those wanting to upgrade to digital, and benefit from up to an additional 40 TV and 24 radio channels with no subscription charge The DIGA DMEX75 also has a analogue tuner, rising to the challenges of accommodating both consumers who have adequate Digital Broadcast reception and those who are yet to enjoy strong enough reception.

By connecting an HDMI cable to your HD ready TV, you can enjoy your DVDs in beautiful high quality pictures on par with that of High Definition images. You can also convert other non-HD signals, such as JPEGs from your SD card, to HD level for playback with improved picture quality.

High definition (10801 720p) Up conversion with HDMI

The DMREX75 offers recording onto and playback from ALL DVD disk types. i.e. DVD RAM -R/-RW , +R/+RW, including the new dual layer and 16 x speed -R disks, allowing total freedom of choice and potential to share cherished recordings. In addition to the expected playback of music CDs, the DMREX75 will now playback MP3 and JPEG from both CD R/RW and DVD-R, an additional bonus for those archiving digital photos on their PC.

    Great .... until it broke down - #2 !3
I can not believe I have to write about the same problem as the previous reviewer. After 364 days of service the machine refuses to recognise any DVD inserted. Has Panasonic built in a time-up device? So, nice machine but not built to last. Copy onto DVD immediately or get extended warranty.

Great machine until it broke down3
This is a brilliant piece of design, with a generally good user interface and almost all the features one could ask for. The FreeView tuner is sensitive, and the hard-disk editing features are close to what a MiniDisc user would expect (only the ability to join programmes is missing).

However, after 48 weeks, mine stopped being able to handle any DVD, even pre-recorded ones. Whatever I put in gives the message "Disc cannot be read - please check disc". I reported it to Panasonic Customer Services a few days ago, and am currently awaiting a response.

So I have a hard disk nearly full of brilliant recordings, but cannot archive them to DVD. My advice is to archive as you go, rather than trying to accumulate like material to go on to the discs.

Over-rated and very annoying to use2
This is my 5th dvd player having previously used 2 Pioneer DVD-Rs, a Mitsubishi Black Diamond and a Chinese generic brand. All the ratings and mags rave about Panasonics, but this machine has been disappointing. I use this side-by-side with a Pioneer DVD-R and am consistently unimpressedd.

The upscaled picture is not what I expected - I run DVDs through my old Pioneer using component cables and it is better than the Panasonic though the HDMI.

The on-screen menus are horrible - very hard to follow and not intuitive at all. It takes forever to do anything like editing a recording, or trying to record from HDD to DVD. The Pioneer is much clearer and easier to use - a real delight of sensible design.

The controller is also awful - very clunky and stiff. Buttons often do not respond until they have been depressed firmly for the 10th time. It takes ages to do anything using the controller as it is so poor. It is also very badly set out and requires constant reference to the guide book to know what to do.

It is also unattractive to look at, though this is a minor point, but is consistent with the poor design throughout.
