Customer Reviews
One!....er...two....Three!
I bought this 3 Cd set because I wanted to regain some of the tracks I used to listen to and play as a DJ in Cleethorpes all those years ago.
Consequently, I am over the proverbial with CD1: Twine Time! The Fascinations! Jamo Thomas and the very clever I Spy for the FBI! Just about every track on this CD is a must.
And so to CD2....I'm a soul fan. I didn't buy this set as a Northern Soul fan. To me, the label is ludicrous, but I can't get too involved in my own personal stuff in this review.Suffice to say CD2 opens with Bok to Bach, Father's Angels, and I can see the crowds on the dancefloor doing that peculiar folksey, skipping hornpipe that superceded the pill-powered running up the walls and backflips of the earlier scene. For me, CD2 is a write-off, but read Neill Rushton's sleeve notes for a more objective view.
CD3 - and I'm all ears again!..Though if Gil Scott-Heron is 'Northern Soul', where does that leave the likes of War and Mandrill?
Some great stuff here for soul fans of all persuasions.
Northern Soul at its best
Having already purchased several compilations of Northern Soul I expected a few tracks I knew and the rest of the tracks would be a bit poor but this is a fantastic compilation. Every track gets you wanting to dance! All 3 cds are terrific. Takes me back to my youth in a good way. Highly recommend it.
