A Brilliant High End Compact Camera
This is a marvelous piece of equipment. The image quality is outstanding and there is enough latitude there in the function choices in Manual Mode to give the user more control if that's what's required.
But for most the Auto mode will be perfect for the vast majority of shots. High ISO settings are also at your fingertips and it's great to be able to experiment at home when you're getting to know the camera and see how the different settings can effect the final result.
The design of the camera is a real head turner, the Titanium case is a joy to hold and reeks of quality. Every button is well thought of and the screen is great and all the familiar Canon menus and options are there.
Software is simple and worked well. I installed it on my Apple iMac with no problems and I can of course simply use iPhoto as well.
All in all a really great camera, loaded with functions and looks fantastic. And it takes really superb photos which is what it's all about at the end of the day. Save yourself the hassle of looking elsewhere, if it's a a high-end compact you're after then this is THE camera of the moment.
Great Results Everytime
I bought the 900 Ti just before Christmas 06 and am very very impressed. Up till then I had been using a Panasonic and although it gave good results in bright conditions it was very prone to camera shake in poorer light even with the anti shake button on.
I have had none of these problems with the Canon. Pictures come out clear and crisp everytime. It is a joy to use. The menu system is extremely intuitive and despite everything on the camera being small it does not feel fiddly. The on screen icons are easy to understand and useful rather than simply being meaningless distractions as on some other cameras. The quality of the lens is superb and doing a shot by shot comparision with the Panasonic the Canon is in a different league. Although it has a manual control I have found the auto setting gets it spot on every time and I just leave it to the camera to work out the technical stuff. The lcd screen is the best I have ever used bright, clear accurate and sharp.
If I did have one complaint it is that there is no battery level indicator until the battery is about to give out. Having said that I have found the battery life to be excellent and have used it frequently since Christmas (including video and frequent reviewing) but only had to recharge it twice.
I would have no hesitating in recommending the 900 Ti to anyone who is looking for a well made camera, that is easy to use and gives excellent results. Well done Canon.
Amazing performance!
I had a Canon camera a few years back (2MP), so knew what to expect - excellent build quality, easy to use, and great value. I was not disappointed. This camera is an amazing piece of technology, combining high resolution, great zoom but best of all near video camera quality movies!!
I have two young kids and it means I'll no longer be stuck with low-res movies when I don't want to carry a video camera around. 30 frames/second might not sound as good as 50 fields/second TV, but being in the video processing industry I can tell you that most DVDs are only really 24 frames/s!
One other amazing thing is that it works at really low light levels. Other cameras I've used just can't handle indoor lighting without producing a lot of graininess. This camera is easily better than any other I've used.
I recommend you buy a large, fast SD card to go with this - so you get the most from it. Simply put, I cannot fault this camera - just buy it and you won't regret it.
