Product Description

Third studio album, their Parlophone debut and the first since 2000's 'Saints And Sinners', from reformed Brit girl group still amazingly popular and credible five years after their initial acrimonious split in 2001. Recorded with their longtime producer KG, Greg Kurstin (Peaches, Lily Allen) and Rick Nowels (Madonna, Dido), this album builds on the classicsassy All Saints sound, while adding reggae and ska influences in a nod to the legendary Jamaican studio of the title. Includes the single 'Rock Steady'.

Studio 1 - All Saints5
Studio One is the first release from 90's pop girl band All Saints since their last release, Saints and Sinners in (Date Needed).

The album has a mix of excellent, alright and awful songs, and it is only those three extremes which can be found on this album.

What can be said for this album is that the girls have certainly developed as a group with their style of song, creating an album of Ska fuelled reggae R&B Songs, with some absolutely tear-jerking ballads and some very high quality harmonising. They have certainly matured, and it is nice to hear a girl group singing there feminist ways in a more grown up style in comparison to acts like Girls Aloud.

The best song on the album is by far "Rock Steady", the only song I absolutely love on this album. However, there are some close contenders to look out for, "On and On" and "Fundamental" are both excellent tracks, both catchy and beautiful ballads which certainly are some of the best songs the girls have ever recorded. There are also some pleasing mid- to up-tempo tracks, including "Flashback", a unique track with a catchy rock/pop sound and brilliant lyrics, "Headlock", an upbeat R&B track which reflects the sound of the Pussycat Dolls and "Not Eazy" which seems to be a continuation of the sound created in "Rock Steady" but does not reach the quality achieved in the albums opening track.

The tracks "Scar" and "One Me and You" both seemed pretty weak to me on first listening but after some time have grown on me, although "Scar" has some annoying offbeat vocal which sounds like a drowning man which continues throughout the hole song. Thankfully the vocal harmonies are fantastic on this song and gives my eardrums something worthwhile listening to.

There are also a selection of songs on this album which portray weak vocals from the girls, combined with loud and brash drumbeats and frankly annoying and over-the-top ska type trumpets, which are "Chick Fit" and "Hell No", both really annoying and frustrating tracks to listen to, and frankly don't fall into my classification of `entertainment'.

The other two tracks, "Too Nasty" and "In It To Win It" are both weak and poor tracks, and whilst listenable they certainly lack any kind of flare or originality and were both instantly forgettable.

Never the less, the album is, on the whole, not bad at all. The girls have got some excellent tracks on here, and for those of you who may enjoy more upbeat R&B songs may enjoy the ones I really did not.

It is certainly good to have the girls back, and I recommend the album "Studio One" to you, for which I give the album 8/10.

What a surprise!5
I am totally amazed and surprised at the excellence of this album. I was never much of a fan in the '90s but their sound has matured and the quality improved greatly. Shaznay's is the lead vocal and sounds great, very strong. There are no fillers on this album, every track a winner in my opinion. Full of catchy tunes and at times very clever lyrics too. Best song is Chick Fit, which didn't make a dent on the charts much to my dismay! Other standout tracks are Not Eazy, One Me & You, Hell No and the wonderful Fundamental. I never expected to enjoy this album so much! The ladies should be very pleased with themselves with this effort, and they have a new fan here. I would however comment on Mel's very annoying vocal, but luckily she doesn't get to sing solo much here - the other 3 girls are much better singers.
