Wonderful Salsa DVD
I have been doing salsa for over a year, and I've seen quite a few DVDs. This is by far the best. It introduces you to advanced moves, while also underlining the basics. There's lots of rueda, and some excellent stuff on shines. I'm self-employed, so I watch it every morning while eating my breakfast. It's really going to take me to the next level of salsa.

great all-round salsa DVD instructional
This is a French instructional dubbed into English. It teaches cuban style salsa but every so often he'll surprise you and add in some 'power moves' that you'd expect out of a cross-body style video. So it's a video anyone can watch.

The thing which impressed me most about this one is that he somehow manages to bridge the gap in doing a video that can be watched by beginners, intermediates, and advanced dancers alike. The more advanced dancers get to polish their style and positioning (it's not just about moves remember ;), while the beginners have more or less a complete course to go through all on a single DVD.

Technically speaking the DVD is very professional. You get multi-angle shots (at the same time on the screen) so you're never lost as to where you should be standing/holding your partner etc.. It is well filmed in a pleasant decor & breaks up the monotony by having different female dancers and there's even a section of the DVD with a different male instructor altogether! My only critique is that you can't choose the language of the DVD. I speak French and while the dubbing is acceptable it feels uncomfortable at times with the delay and the odd obvious mis-translation. A minor point tho

A well thought out DVD
Well thought out dvd! As a non-salsa trainer, who has taken a few classes, I thought the quality of the teaching was very reasonable. Think the salsa is cuban style (this may be a major factor in choosing this DVD). Gives proper names of the moves. Goes from beginners to advanced. Main menu has 3 options: lessons, chapters and warm up.
1. Warm up contains lessons on shines with both back, front and slow motion shots, so its good for practice without a partner and for complimenting your regular salsa lessons perhaps.
2. Lessons (Best done with a partner! But even just watching and having a go, you get something from it!) Lessons give a technical breakdown of steps/moves, as well as explanation/aims, and provide shots from 3 main different angles (closeup body, wide-angle back and close up foot shots), as well as slow motion. This makes it really effective for learning and easy to follow. After a number of lessons, a Rueda demo
is given, showing how the salsa moves just learnt can be incorporated into Rueda! (Note: The Rueda part only is just a demo!)

The fact that there is English audio naration/translation whilst the French-speaking guy in the video actually demonstrates, did not spoil the enjoyment for me too much or the functionality.

Conclusion - These guys can really dance with style so if you're smart, you'll watch and learn! Not BBC quality filming/editing, but weighing it all up, it does exactly what it sets out to do and that is to teach salsa effectively! If you can get past these minor points you'll be pleased with your purchase!
