Synopsis
In this unique mobster movie, Scott Baio heads up a prepubescent cast as the title character, a child gangster determined to rule over New York City. Instead of throwing fists or bullets, the Prohibition-era kiddie mobsters sling confections at one another. When Bugsy learns that a rival gang has developed a secret weapon capable of firing sweets as quick as a machine gun shoots bullets, he sets out to heist the high-tech tart-launcher.
BUGSY MALONE, director Alan Parker's first feature, cleverly spoofs the rich, cliche-ridden history of films about organized crime while lightly mocking the childlike, selfish traits of grown-ups. The engaging silliness is periodically spirited forward by several song-and-dance numbers composed by bubblegum pop maestro Paul Williams.

this never dates
My daughter's school recently put on a production of this story, and we decided to buy it as I had not seen it for years. I was pleased to know that you didn't have to have the subtitles on as that would have been annoying for the whole film. We thoroughly enjoyed it and then re-watched the songs with the words and sang along. I felt the film was as fresh as when it was released all those years ago and my daughter loved it watching it for the first time. A great family film, that has stood the test of time.

As good as I remember...
Well, to start I have to say how happy I am with the speed of delivery on this item. I had it literally next day.
The item arrived in excellent condition, no dents or scratches.
This is an excellent film for kids, family or nostalgia. I bought it for my daughter as she is performing in a stage adaptation of the film at her school. Also, this is one of my wife's favourite films.
This is the sing-a-long edition, which means you get 'karaoke style' words appear on your TV screen during the main songs of the film. This feature, however, can be switched off within the DVD menu to allow for normal viewing. Perfect if you have budding budding actress in the house.
If this film is your sort of thing and you're thinking of buying a copy, then I would highly recommend this edition.

Great movie, but...
A really fantastic movie - the children loved it (ages between 6 and 10). Unfortunately the dvd we were sent kept jumping (annoying), and there was a paper flyer included ('Radar' from Optimum Releasing) which I felt was entirely inappropriate for inclusion with a U-certificate film (it was advertising 15 and 18-certificate films). Get the movie - but check inside the packaging before you hand it over to your little angels!
