Terrible
This cd is the most bland commercial crap i have ever heard. its so bad it makes the odd good track sound bad. I threw my copy away as i couldnt bear to pass such rubbish on to anybody else.Save your money.
Yet more chart hits we've heard all year
What we must ask ourselves is "What really is the point of MoS' Annuals anymore? Allow me to explain..
As a now, mature person, I grew up listening to MoS' Annuals since day 1 (which was 1995). Back then, the annuals were based soley around the club itself, where residents such as Pete Tong, Boy George, and later on Judge Jules and Tall Paul proudly mixed music. This album - it has little, to no relevance to the club, or any other 'genuine' club scene across the UK. Its such a shame that the people who will disagree are the ones that wern't able to hear the classic sounds of the 90's. They'll learn one day.
Sure, there'll be a few floor fillers that you'll hear, but the rest mearly makes up space from Sky channels such as "The Hits", or from the other MoS albums released this year - those being ibiza, clubbers guide, funky house etc...
Limited Editon Box set? So whats that all about then? Oh yeah thats right. Since the annual 2004, MoS have attempted to gain even more market by convincing the public they are buying not just any old annual.. its a 'Limited Editon Box Set!' And its a year ahead, so that when its on the shop shelves, it won't look old, come 2007. Is it really a Limited Editon Box Set? No. Its the only release of the complimation, and theirs nothing limited, or special about it. When the albums where prensented in leather book cases, now that was something special. The DVD included in the release is also becoming predictable, and of course pointless unless you intend on bopping around your bedroom, thinking 'wow, this is good! (which very few people will do..). Even the album cover is becoming predictable, with its kiddyish bright colours, that were used in The Annual 2002, and from The Annual 2005 onwards! But when it comes to sytheasasia, the cheesy tunes really do match the cover.
What I really can't understand is that if the likes of Judge Jules can still play non-commercial dance music on Radio 1 night sessions, then surely that shows its not the music thats changing - its Ministrys perception of 'what people want'. So why can't they just bring back albums that reflect the club scenes? With regards to the reviewer that stated this series of albums is 'better than ever', obviously has never heard of the club scene back in the 90's that was uncommercial and actually enjoyable to go to, not to mention the albums.
I guess we just have to accept that this is the market now. For about 2 years now, trance seems to have been absent from an MoS album, and this makes the albums sound even more commercial. All I can say is that if you want a true reflection of whats happening now on the club scene, tune in to Radio 1's night sessions (even if you don't have a radio, just go on the web site - its all free!). Theirs one thing for sure though, and thats that this album will be not different to this years 'Clubland' release - just more of the same..
..actually, Clubland 10 has a song from DJ Alligator Project (remember 'Blow my whistle baby...'), so at least MoS avoided that. But, its no consolation - this is one £15 MoS won't be robbing!
oh dear
looks like ministry have yet again made a terrible annual, im sure all of you who are buying this album already have most of the tracks on this compilation. lets face it all of these tunes are played on the radio anyway, and have been on countless cd's like "hed kandi" and "cream". MOS should consentrate more on the club scene and not on the charts. "put your hands up for detroit" and many others were good the first time you heard them but they have just been over played and are too boring.
i think the target audience of these compilations are aimed at school kids, not clubbers! and where are the dj's? i remember the days of "pete tong" and "judge jules". the annuals back then were 5 star material.
cd's like these are destroying dance music, and are making the club scene dull
