Album Description
Folk-Funk? Electric Folk? Hippy-Rock? Acid Folk? Sunshine-Pop? Folk-Fusion? Folksploitation? Once again music lovers struggle to bridge the deep & wide gully where another hybrid genre wanders lonely amongst the vinyl ghosts of yesteryears ethereal love songs. Let us introduce a second flock of unsung songbirds who flutter between rocks and hardened pastures too commercial to be traditional - not successful enough to be credible - from the wrong side of town - on the other side of the globe. Here are some of the would-be folk legends that you didn't read about, they never played the festivals and you never heard their records... until today!
"Folk Is Not A Four Letter Word 2" is the fifth release from DELAY 68 RECORDS and the follow up to the critically acclaimed best seller first volume (CDDELAY 01), and its sequel 'Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word' (CDDELAY 03). Featuring a few old faces and a host of undiscovered talent from home and abroad, this brilliant compilation picks up where volume one left off and promises to be even better!
Once again compiled by, and featuring original artwork and sleevenotes from ANDY VOTEL (TWISTED NERVE/BMUSIC), this compilation is brought you by the FINDERS KEEPERS RECORDS team, responsible for bringing you WELSH RARE BEAT, and JEAN CLAUDE VANNIER'S 'L'ENFANT ASSASSIN DES MOUCHES'.
The majority of these tracks have never before been on CD, many appear here for the first time away from their sought after original releases. Eclectic folk has become very popular lately amongst collectors, DJs and artists and Andy Votel is well respected in each of those circles.

Confounding, Comforting, Other Worldly and better than Volume 1
This is the long awaited follow up to the Andy Votel archiological dig that was "Folk Is Not a Four Letter Word" and in my opinion it trumps the first one on many levels. This colletion may not have the individual genius of the first (Linda Perhacs, Kathy Smith spring to mind) but it seems to hang together far more coherently. The first seemed to suffer from sequencing issues that have been resolved here. From the opening poem of Carol Bratton (reprising her role as MC from the previous volume) to the closing strains of Turid via the playful cover of Joni Mitchells "A Night in the City" by Y Triban, the incredibly fragile and evocative "Of Broken Links" by non-hit makers These Trails and a down right bizarre "The Waters of Babylon" by 11:59 (you may remember Boney M's version better and if you do, this will jar you considerably); its a real pot pourri of wonderful obscurities. This has been on my ipod for the past week and shows no sign of being shifted down the playlist. From a time when things seemed a little more imaginative and less cynical. Warm your ears and your hearts with this fine collection. Recommended.
Pretty Good
but the track from the wonderful Emmanuelle Parrenin is not Apres L'Ondee, it's called Voyage Migrateur. You can actually tell that from the fact the only lyrics are "Voyage Migrateur". Not only that, they actually manage to spell the wrong title wrong - it's not Apres Londee. Sloppy work guys! Anyway, pedantry aside, this is an ace collection. And fans should definitely check out E. Parrenin's Maison Rose - it's amazing.
