Good, but not perfect.4
It was nice of DC to finally package up in a double CD the live show we all craved to be released. Whitesnake have a great line up now probably their best ever, that said it is a shame that Marco Mendoza has gone as he was as solid as a rock in the rhythm section. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers and say that the sound is not the greatest, "a bit wooley" if those are the right words, that aside everything you would expect is there. All the songs we want are included (nice to see slide it in make it back into the set), the band are giving 100%, any true whitesnake fan will just turn it up and get right into it despite the flaws.
Why they didn't just release the full set of the "live in the still of the night" DVD is beyond me. The CD that came with it was of stellar quality, just too short. If they had done that we would have had a 5 star package instead of a 4 star one.
The new tracks are OK as well, it is just to be hoped that they use this line up to record a new full studio album as soon as possible. One thing remains true at the end of it all, DC is still the best Rock singer/frontman still touring; the guy is amazing. keep going Dave and keep the band together.

Live in the Shadow of the Blues review5
I've been a fan of hard rock/heavy metal since 1982 when I saw my first gig which was AC/DC on their For Those About To Rock... tour of '82.

Live albums such as AC/DC's 'If You Want Blood...', Motorhead's 'No sleep 'til Hammersmith' and Whitesnake's 'Live In The Heart Of The City' are all classics but in recent times, live albums just haven't been the same...... until this one!!

This is the best live album I've heard in years. The sound quality is superb throughout. If you like a really heavy twin guitar sound, you'll love this. The drums, bass and keyboard are excellent and Coverdale's voice is really on form.

The selection of songs will please everyone. I'm quite a fan of the '1987' album and quite a few of the songs make an appearance here; all of them played brilliantly.

My favourite is 'crying in the rain' with the guitar solos played superbly, note for note!!

Disc two opens with an excellent rendition of 'Burn/Stormbringer' ... awesome!!

The quality of music continues with every track. After all the live tracks, four new studio tracks are included and I must say, they're all good songs. I look forward to the new album.

I would say to anyone who likes good hard rock: buy this album, go home, sit down, pour a beer and enjoy the music!

Having read the previous negative feedback I felt compelled to add my own comment. David Coverdale is on fine form, although admittedly and hardly surprising his voice is not quite what it was. However, this does not detract from what is a fine live recording and CD. The most notable thing for me about the recording is the sheer quality of the guitar playing from Doug Aldrich which is bluesy with a contemporary edge. All the tracks are great, but the standouts for me are Walking in the Shadow of the Blues, Don't Break My Heart Again, and Burn-Stormbringer. The new stuff is very good too, particularly the outstanding If You Want Me. I've been a fan of Whitesnake since the early '80's and this release does not disappoint. A worthy addition to the Whitesmake legacy.
