With the Xbox 360 still selling like two week old sushi in Japan, Capcom remains Microsoft’s biggest supporter from the land of the rising uppercut. Realising there’s no point trying to appeal to the local market their games so far have all been very much Western in style, as exemplified by the well-received Dead Rising. This was intended as a third person take on Halo and even though the similarities are ultimately minor it’s still one of the 360’s best action games. Like most Capcom games the story (and particularly dialogue and voiceovers) is not one of the game’s best features, but thankfully there’s not much that needs explaining when you’re fighting monster bugs and giant robot riding snow pirates.

Like Halo you can have only two weapons at a time and use a recharging shield. This though is powered by an always decreasing supply of thermal energy, topped up from defeated enemies. Apart from this the only other piece of gadgetry you have to help you is a grappling hook, although it remains largely underused in the single player campaign. The various mechs you can commandeer are a great deal of fun though, with different variants being able to jump, hover or transform into vehicles. Graphically the game is excellent, with some awesomely large Starship Troopers style bugs and possibly the best explosions ever in gaming.

Where the game gets into trouble is the brevity of the single player campaign. Although this is compensated by the online multiplayer mode, even that cannot overcome the game’s innate simplicity. Complexity, or even longevity, is not what this game is about though and in terms of offering plenty of big dumb fun it succeeds admirably.

Some people are too picky
Just don't understand some people. This game is excellent.
Fantastic graphics. Superb game play and the in game animations are there just to give you a sense of story line.

At least you don't have to start right from the begining again if you die. And the Bosses are awsome if a little frustrating to kill.

Overall I feel my money was well spent on this game and I have had hours and hours of game play and I'm only on mission 6.

It's coming down in price now and you would be crazy not to have this game in your collection.

Not quite Gears Of War, but a still a gooden!
Game develpers Capcom have had a rather excitable 12 months, having released such highly anticipated games like Dead Rising and Lost Planet in such a short space of time. To sum it up, Lost Planet is about one man's fight to regain lost memory about his past, while battling for survival on a snow covered planet against the mighty Akrid aliens and enemy snow pirates.

As many reviewers before me have mentioned, this game is a real treat for the eyes, this game displays over 30 000 differnet shades of blue for example! But before i start to talk about the in game content, id like to point out that to compare any aspect of this game to Gears Of War is unfair to the game, if we all compared games to Gears Of War, we'd never find a game we could enjoy! No, this game is no gears of war and nor does it try to be one.

There are plenty of shooters out there today, but none quite like lost planet. From the moment you start to play, you can immediatly tell that the game was made by a Japanese company as there is an overwhelming feeling of an arcade like presence through every stage of this game. Just the way this game plays out, its just so... retro... and i love it!
The single player is fairly straight forward if repetative and can sometimes leave you thinking, "Is that it?!" However in the long run, the game delivers as spreaded around all 12 single player missions is absoulute mayhem, with the player facing loads of on screen enemies. The AI on this game coupled with the raw power of the xbox 360 can produce outstanding amounts of detail on every enemy, with up to 1000 moving parts on one screen at the same time... WITHOUT A DOSE OF LAG! Trust me, killing loads of Akrids on the surface and then falling through the snow to be greeted with 50 more gives you an riviting buzz. Producers Capcom make the player feel that the odds are stacked impossibly against him, and boy does it feel good when your kicking ass on this game.

This is a hard game, and is tough to finish, but is made easier with the assistance of the magnificent "Vital suits" or VSes. A VS is a manually operated walking, jumping heap of hard hitting metal that can be used both in single player and multiplayerto eradicate enemies with an outstading array or huge mech weapons. These include a gatling gun, a high powered mage shotgun, laser guns, homing missile launchers, gargantuan rocket launchers and more. Better yet, these weapons can be ripped of off a VS and used by a man, or installed on another VS, allowing the player to create his own brand of mechanised mayhem.

These days, the multiplayer modes make up half of the gaming experiance, and lost planet delivers in this aspect. Up to sixteen player can battle it out in four different game types on over 8 huge maps. These maps are up to 10x bigger than enything youd see in GoW's multiplayer and the maps are constanly bombarded with real time weather changes and even day and night. Sniping? your vision will soon be impared by a thick blizzard raging through the map, using a snow storm as cover to sneak up on the enemy base? Better act fast or the storm will end and your cover will be blown! You can even use your uniqe breathing mask to launch attcks from under water! Or you can simply wait until night time, so you can make your move under the cover of darkness!

Overall, this game is a barrel of fun and although it can get a little repetative and the voice acting is far from great, this is over-compensated by feriously fun gameplay and unpredictable mayhem!

Yeah!
The Last Capcom title i bought was the dreadfully appauling Dead Rising so i was a little concerned about buying this game. i downloaded the demo off xbox live and the more i played it the more i liked it altho i was never blown away by it.

I bit the bullet and paid my [...]cash for it and I have to say im impressed.. this game is a shooter thru and thru, if it moves then shoot it, if it doesnt move shoot it anyway there is little in this game to tax your brain but its damn good fun. the graphics are great, not upto gears of war standards but still they look good even on a regular TV, the smoke and snow effects are amazing as are the explosions which are the most realistic explosion effects ive seen on a console.

This game is not as good as gears of war but thankfully we are starting to get titles that really do look next gen and that make the gap between xbox and xbox 360 wider... this game is mindless fun and very enjoyable.

NO MORE DEAD RISINGS CAPCOM!
