Editorial Reviews
Mojo, 4/5 - A Lead Review
"A raw and overwhelming surge of soul. Deeply moving."
Word
"You'd be very fortunate to hear another record this incredible this year."
Q
"Achieves a rare kind of poise, hovering between jazz, soul and orchestral soundtrack. They have never sounded so convincing than on this."

i like it
is good yes? yes. like good that is nice. not like good like man wiv camera. no. not like him. maybe more songs on this one. more singing like guy from coldplay but not him someone else. some piano on it. It make you happy like good weather and freinds on television. not hollyoaks like on e4 when you get holloaks then friends and you want friends but on e4 and e4+1 you get hollyoaks. how is this?
Oh, I tried, I tried...
Preamble: big fan of Motion and Everyday. Mesmerised and fasinated. They were pretty much the soundtrack to my life and continue to be essential listening. I purchased Ma Fleur from a bargain bin, which was of concern, as Motion and Everyday were typically steeply priced and fending off discount. First listen...my feelings were of crushing disappointment. Ma Fleur is not the Cinematic Orchestra I know. First track is, I confess, superb and fragile and beautiful...but it's not CO. I have now sat and listened to the disc several times and I find it boring, which really hurts me to say. I just can't find a way in. It so far removed from my expectations and a rather earnest and pretentious affair that I fear it will quietly wither from neglect in my collection. There are fleeting moments of CO on Ma Fleur that shine through but provoke groans of dismay as they all too quickly end. Any album that is categorized as 'brave' and found in the bargain bin is more than likely a damp squib to the fickle masses. Sorry CO I expected rainfall sizzling on neon not tears falling on candyfloss.
Genius
Buy this record. Seriously that's all you need to know.
It doesn't matter who this is by or what they used to sound like, this collection of songs stands on its own as a thing of absolute beauty. I can't remember the last time I was so blown away by an album - and I listen to a lot of music.
This is from the very top of the top drawer. Truely exceptional.
