Synopsis
Based on the popular video game, DOA Dead or Alive finds three high-kicking females competing in a martial arts tournament on a secluded island. The women include wrestler Tina Armstrong (Jaime Pressley, My Name is Earl), jewel thief Christie Allen (Holly Valance, Neighbours), and Japanese princess Kasumi (Devon Aoki, Sin City). Although initially rivals, the trio are forced to work together in order to defeat a malevolent force. Master action film director Corey Yuen (The Transporter) injects a huge amount of flair and energy into the film, the plot of which predominantly consists of scantily clad women engaged in fights. WWE wrestler Kevin Nash (aka Diesel) makes a notable appearance as Tina's father, who also competes in the tournament.

OMG WHAT THE HELL IS THIS
WHAT, with all the positive ratings on this film I thought why not give it a go, but what the hell is this. Yes there are fit girls fighting, but the fightings isn't that good. The story line is shocking and the acting even worse. The director has not linked any kind of a story together.
Don't get me wrong I knew when I purchased this that it was not going to be an oscar winner but give me strength. Even with the fit girls I am not watching this again :-?
this is entertainment
if you are expecting top-notch acting then look elsewhere the same can be said of the wafer thin plot as it purely serves the purpose of linking the fights together .
and that is where this film scores big points as the action is very slick and there is plenty of it .
the whole thing rattles along at a frantic pace and you really sont get a chane to get bored .
so if you want some mindless entertainment then this well worth checking out .
Ignore the Oxbridge critics
A recent newspaper article in the 'Independent' showed that nearly all the national TV critics in the UK formed an Oxbridge-educated clique, giving each other cushy jobs - so stick to the Amazon reviews if you want a genuine overview of a movie.
This one is a terrific martial arts movie - that's all that it seeks to be and it achieves it magnificently. The girls are terrific in their roles, especially Holly Valance and Devon Aoki. Natassia Malthe also makes a stunning appearence as she did in 'Elektra' - it's time she was given a more meaty role somewhere.
The action is stylish and electric and tightly edited by director Corey Yuan. The plot centres around a martial arts tournament and the ambitions of the bad guy to somehow infuse all the powers of the different martial artists into his body - but frankly, that's irrelevant. It's first and foremost a martial arts movie, which has just the right amount of humour and ends at exactly the right time.
