Don't Be Fooled
Items like this are just feeding off consumer fears, consoles are built with their own cooling system, this attatchment fixes onto the back of the ps3 where the heat is already escaping, other then adding noise it has no benefit to the console itself.
Some air coolers are counter productive and could damage the system, and keep in mind if you overheat your console because of this 3rd party add on your warranty is voided.
If you want to keep your console truly cool, keep it in a space with plenty of airflow and open a window now and again if you feel the room getting too hot for you.
Works well in my opinion...
Hmm, either the other people who have reviewed this are missing something or I am because I thnk the product works very well. Admittedly it is pretty noisy and I agree with the review about the vibrations but just putting the PS3 on a rubber mat cut most of this out anyway. I found that with some adjustment to the fan speed the PS3 ran alot smoother and cooler kciking out warm air instead of the meltingly hot air it was doing before. So in conclusion, a little noisy but the good points (runs off main power, relocates power switch to front of ps3) outweigh this
intercooled - the way to go
unlike the others i have actually bought an intercooler for my ps3 (joytech), i have a vinal wrapped beast with additional neon 7 port usb hub running, charging dock, joypad adaptor, iMac pro keyboard.. one of the things i noticed is that after 15 minutes of use the PS3 does get warm to the touch and the big internal fan really kicks in. i rigged it up with industry standard temp gauges and it was running at 36*C, after i fitted the intercooler it dropped down to 28*C. ok so it was hardly going to explode into flames before but a cooler system is a faster system and will last longer. the case is now always cool to touch and the heat those fans kick out is quite remarkable. plus the joytech version looks sweet. (i wired a blue led into the bay housing the rear ports) ps, it runs off one of the PS3's built in usb ports and uses very small amounts of power.
