Blown Away5
What a way to start the year! This is a mind-blowing compilation. It was not what I expected at all, I thought it would be your average run of the mill house compilation but thanks to Team Kandi I have a compilation that explores much more than just house music. Make no mistake I enjoy the up-tempo songs on the CD but the inclusion of classic tracks such a Light My Fire by Shirley Bassey & Kenny Dope just blew me away. With dance floor fillers such as "Oh My Gosh", "Don't Stop The Music" & "Electric Blue" on these CD's I just had to have my say.

Both CD's explore a blend of electro, soul, funk and house. There is definitely a taste for everyone. So I would like to share this with you - I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed when listening to this well put together and well thought out track listing.

Thank you Hed Kandi for a breathe of fresh air.

Brilliant!!!

Wow......What a way to start the New Year!5
Nu Cool 65 is the first Hed Kandi release of 2007 and I must say I am very impressed indeed. I always eagerly anticipate the release of this particular compliation and in my opinion this is the best one so far in the Nu Cool series. CD 1 is more uptempo than CD 2 and both are packed with some real ultra-cool funky gems.

CD1 really gets the party started with an energetic broken beat cover version of the 80's classic Yarborough & Peoples 'Don't Stop The Music' by Bugz In The Attic moving into another track on the same tip by Basement Jaxx and also 'Why You' by the Loose Cannons. Next up 'Warrior' by Andy Caldwell which is one of my faves on the whole CD. This mid-tempo electronic feel good slow burner really is the sh*t, such a cool sultry vocal makes this a stand out track which had me reaching for repeat time and time again! The tempo then picks up with Amp Fiddlers groovy 'Ridin' and an infectious vocal led future boogie style track entitled 'You Used To Hold Me So Tight' by Reel People. Ashley Beedle then does what he does best by adding his trademark disco-edged production skills to devastating effect on this 'hispanico' style remix of Mighty Dub Katz 'Guaguanco' and his epic stringtastic 'The Baloon Room' which is heavily reminiscent of his Black Science Orchestrea days. Sandwiched in between these two tracks is Candy Apple's soulful broken beat remix of Soulstars 'I Got You'. DJ T then takes us on a journey with his deep future boogie style 'Funk On You' leading perfectly into probably THE best ever broken beat track 'Samurai' by Jazztronik. This pianotastic anthem is without doubt an underground classic and is the main reason I bought this album. Can't get enough of this uplifiting track championed by none other than the great Gilles Petterson. A Hundred Birds really do go to town with there heavy bass version of 'Discopolis', violins, thumping percussion et all! A very 'live' feel to this truly stunning remix and ending on a high with the rather catchy guitar led 'Electric Blue' by Cicada.

CD2 gets underway with the peaceful folk classic 'Heartbeats' by Jose Gonzalez. Then the unique sounding vocal of Imogen Heap on Frou Frou's 'Breathe In' takes the CD in a different direction, a real trip into the alternative. Kenneth Bager (founder of the hugely inspirational Music For Dreams compilations) continues the trip into the alternative with a piece of cinematic electronica that wouldn't sound out of place on the big screen. A real moment to cherish. One Self bring us back to the funk with 'Bluebird' which has that raw summery R&B feel to it same as Kenny Dopes remix of Shirley Bassey's 'Light My Fire' which is truly stunning. Syleena Johnson's 'He Makes Me Say' is an excellent uplifting party track as is 'On The Slide' by The Turbomen. A real sassy little underground gem which makes me want summer to hurry up and come so I dust off that BBQ and throw a pool party. Killer!! Nu Cool wouldn't be complete without a track from cosmic funkers Crazy P and Ron Basejam's mix of 'Can't Get Down' doesn't dissapoint. This is a track fit for those sunny shores of Ibiza and will no doubt be in the CD players of even the most trendy of beach bars on Salinas. Stockholm Cyclo continue in a similar vein with 'Beginning People' a gorgeous slice of vocal electronica which will surely be a future mid-tempo classic. Fellow mid-tempo groovers Office Gossip feature with their very subtle 'Into The Light'. The last three tracks on CD2 really cap what is an absolute must buy compilaton.

All in all a real mixture of all things funky. A sure winner that will be the first thing in my case when I head over to the Med on my summer holidays.....

Another great Nu Cool release from the Hed Kandi stable.
