Loose Cannon
Brian Pillman is quite possibly the most under-rated wrestler of all time. He was a high-flyer, a brawler, a Four Horseman, a member of the Hart Foundation and much more!
Of all the WWE DVDs I own (a lot!) I rate this as their best documentary effort to date. The wrestlers, Pillman's family and friends, Steve Austin, Jim Ross and others all help to make this a fitting tribute and detailed biog of Brian Pillman's much too short life.
As well as the brilliant documentary on disc 1 there are some great matches to be found on disc 2. Including the early high-flying WCW days and later WWE matches against Stone Cold Steve Austin.
This DVD should be part of every wrestling fans library. Brian Pillman would certainly be in my Top Ten wrestlers of all time along with Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Ric Flair and six others funnily enough! And let's not forget one of the most important things about Pillman: He always had cool hair!
pleasing stuff but tragic ,oh so tragic
brian pillman was a wrestler that couldnt stand idle,he wanted to work even when he couldnt,he wanted to get back into the ring even after a serious car accident bent his ankle 180 degrees around, the man should have quit, his pride and hunger for the industry wouldnt let him and as he swallowed painkiller after painkiller just to get through the day this then led to his untimely death some ten years ago.
I think when people talk about brian pillman they forget that when he was on top of his career, the wcw days in particular and before he started working with steve austen that pillman brought a style of aerial wrestling that america had not really seen before, certainly fans werent into it at first preferring brue force over aerial bravado but he turned their heads in the end and paved the way for what would follow.
With steve austen the hollywood blondes were formed and they were a tag team of some quality, although they never lasted as long as they should really,a short and controversial stint in ECW was followed by a time in the WWE,where his character was just so out of control that you never knew what to expect, but the truth is the WWE never got the best out of a man whose body couldnt deal with the demands expected.
Pillman in his early days was the underdog who wouldnt take no for an answer, constantly he was told he wasnt big enough for pro football and wrestling and he conquered both, this dvd contains an informative documentary that deals with all topics of his short but eventful life.
The matches featured are good enough and emphasise what talent he had although behind a mic is where he really reigned but he was never gonna be happy with just that.
A good release and certainly deserved.
