LARRY KERT & LONDON CAST THE FINEST RECORDING OF "COMPANY" EVER!5
The Broadway Cast Album of "Company" was one of CBS' first recordings using their new SQ quadraphonic 4 channel process. The vocals were recorded on separate tracks to achieve this mix. Since the London production of "Company" included virtually the same cast as the Broadway one, including the fabulous Larry Kert, who took over the role of Bobby days after the Broadway opening (and was even Tony nominated for his performance), the CBS engineers recorded Kert's vocals to and simply substituted them in place of Dean Jones (who opened the show and appears on the official Broadway Cast Album) on the existing Broadway orchestral tracks. The song "Barcelona" is the only new recording on the London Cast album since the one cast change in the London production involved this song. That does not diminish the fact that, regardless of how it was accomplished, Kert's performances of the songs in Company have never been surpassed, not even by Raul Esparza in the new 2006 Broadway revival production and the only record we have of Kert's definitive Bobby is the London album, which deserves to be reissued by Sony on CD and made available worldwide. This 1972 combination Broadway & London Cast Recording of Stephen Sondheim's brilliant musical showcases the finest recording of this score ever and as such is one of the greatest recordings of the 20th. Century.

In the best "Company" of Stephen Sondheim4
One of the best classical musicals including hits such as 'The Ladies Who Lunch' and 'Side by Side'. This is an excitingly funny hit musical by Stephen Sondheim and is an original London Cast recording. It is a thouroughly thrilling CD with relaxing ballads such as 'Being Alive'and fast action tracks such as 'I'm not getting married today'. It is a heart-warming tale of a gentleman known to his friends as Robert/Bobby/Bob/Robby. The much loved 'Bob' is the idol of all his close friends since he is "...always there when you need him...", "...never a bother.." and is consequently godfather to all of his friends' children. He is the nicest guy you could ever meet and has everything...all but a wife; much to his friends' unhappiness. His friends, however, do everything possible to change this unhappy state of affairs by trying to find him the perfect partner. They are all extremely worried about him being on his own and invite him to numerous engagements and rely on him to look after their children. 'Bob' finally finds someone who is great company yet this girl does not match his friends' suitability. 'Bobs' friends (the women in particular ) find her to be '...dumb, doggy, vulgar, old, tall...', everything but perfect! This is probably due to the fact that the women don't want Bob to get married because they are all secretly harbouring feelings for him (highlighted at different points in the musical!). Bob is the perfect Gentleman and though he may not have the love of a woman, he has the love of his friends!

This musical is not only a comment on the values of marriage but on the attitudes of life in general. Company is reminisant of the 50's and 60's when men where men and women were women. The music (especially the mens solos)is reminisant of the music sung by Frank Sinatra and holds similar quality! It is suitable for all ages and has some great choral work! I think that this CD is absolutely brilliant to listen to whether in the car, going to bed or just around the house! I really enjoyed listening to this CD and although it is just the hits from the musical, I found it to be excellent value and great fun to listen to. Buy this CD which includes hits such as 'Company', 'What Would We Do without you' and many more and you will be pleasantly entertained whilst learning the value of friendship, marriage and life all at the same time. An excellent CD!

Finest available recording of Company5
As much as I love the original Broadway recording, this revival from 2006 has surpassed it, in my opinion. Raul Esparza is adorable as Robert, and sings Sondheim's lyrics with passion and believability. The new orchestrations are inventive and catchy.
