Customer Reviews

This is NOT Bush Meat II4
Many people may be interested in buying 'Art Brut Fe De Yoot' based on their experiences with Infinite Livez's debut album 'Bush Meat'. I would not discourage this but potential buyers should be warned that this a very different album, both stylistically and in content.

It must be remembered that this is in fact a collaboration and so some differences are to be expected, however I suspect some Infinite fans may be disappointed by the relative lack of his trademark lyrical style. What you get instead is very much an experimental sound more analogous to the work of artists such as cLOUDDEAD.

Stade's lazy, drunken beats provide a much slower-paced backing to Infinite's vocals, which themselves constitute the majority of the melody. Only on one track does the pace quicken significantly and then it does feel somewhat at odds with the rest of the album's plodding rythm. The sound is best described as an extension of the more surreal aspects of Bush Meat (such as They R Comin, Routine Stop and Search and UKKRap) and there is no real rapping in the traditional sense. Thus the witty, fast-paced lyrics which made Infinite stand out when he appeared on the music scene are absent from this venture, although there is no lack of humour (notably 'The Ballad of Baby Man', featuring the refrain "Bloke, you're a little bit to big for Pampers"). Instead we are treated to a series of disjointed monologues and short narratives which demonstrate a different side to the artist which was previously only hinted at. 'Artist' being the opperative word because, as the title suggests, this is more 'arty' and does not adhere to popular concepts of rap.

It is a brave move to present fans with such a change in direction and this will definitely appeal to the more open-minded elements of his audience who will appreciate the quality of Stade's beats and the extent to which Infinite has stretched himself. Whether this is a permanent change in direction or just an interesting aside remains to be seen, although with its titular mantra the final track 'From Now On Things Are Gonna Be Different' could indicate that the days of Bush Meat are in the past. This is further supported by the appearance on the album's cover of a mutilated Barry Convex (Infinite's signature cyclopean hand puppet) atop a half-eaten cupcake.

Ultimately, it could be accused of overindulging in style at the expense of content, however, this is new territory for UK rap and these things don't come easily. There won't be any club hits taken from 'Art Brut' but then that was never the point, was it?

Brilliant / Genius / Original5
Flipping brilliant album by Infinite Livez & Stade (Jazz band from Switzerland!) which goes far beyond the boundaries of pure Hip-Hop. Groundbreaking - maybe not, BUT original and entertaining ..and on Mushrooms - YES indeed! I've still not quite got my head around it's meaning yet but I can't stop laughing at it when it's on rotation, so i'd confidently reccomend this to any fan of Hip-Hop or Jazz or Infinite Livez (of course) who is in need of something between the genres and pigeonholes....
