Manufacturer's Description
The newly designed SIXAXIS wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 system enables gamers to harness the potential of the world's most powerful computer entertainment console. Developed by refining the popular original PlayStation controller, the de facto standard in gaming with several hundred millions units sold worldwide, the SIXAXIS controller features motion-sensing technology to detect natural and intuitive movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user's body.
The SIXAXIS controller utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless gameplay and the controller's USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller through the hardware at anytime. Furthermore, unlike other interactive controllers, the SIXAXIS controller is easy to set-up and is compatible with today's monitors and televisions.
By integrating all these features into the original PlayStation controller design, Sony Computer Entertainment, together with content developers, plans to further enhance the gameplay experience of next generation computer entertainment.

Sony's law Suit with Immersion has cost them a lot...
Sony's law Suit with Immersion has cost them a lot, in more ways than one. This pad is basically a PS1 pad, which was designed in 1994. Technically, it's more responsive, and has much deeper L2/R2 buttons but the loss of the rumble feature makes it feel like you're back in the dark ages. I've yet to play a game which puts the six-axis function to good use. It feels cheap (which the PS2's didn't) very light, and the charging cable is a disgusting 3 feet long! What use is that if the PS3 sits in your living room 8 feet away? Also, even when connected via USB, you still have to activate the pad, why?
Like everything else for my PS3, this seems like an 'almost but not quite' sort of effort. I'm not impressed.
Duel Shock released soon
This control pad will soon be redundant and soon Sony will stop making them, if they havent already.
The pad feels light and flimsy. The controller does it job like every other playstation pad before it which isnt a bad thing. Yes its more refined but thats to be expected from the next gen.
The motion technology is also quite nice but i've recently imported a duel shock pad...
it doesnt feel light, has a nice weight to it and i'm just now remembering just how immersive rumble is.
An thats enough of a reason to wait till duel shock's released.
********************UPDATE ***************************
The duel shock is now available.
Its a better pad and i dont quite understand why people disagree with my review.
The sixaxis IS a very good pad.
But the duel shock will/has make it redundant.
you can see right through it
there is two things wrong
1) it does not rumble
2) if you buy one serperatly from the PS3 and you put in front of the light you can see right through it
apart from that everything else is good
