Manufacturer's Description
The battle for the city is won in the canyon as Need for Speed Carbon immerses you in the world's most dangerous and adrenaline-filled form of street racing. For the first time in a Need for Speed game, build a crew and race in an all-out war for your city against rival crews and opposing car classes. You'll risk everything to take over rival neighbourhoods one street at a time.
Each crew member has unique skills that you trigger during races to give you the winning edge over opponents. Call on a Blocker to create a distraction and slow down other racers or a Scout to lead you to shortcuts on the track. As the police turn up the heat and force the races to the outskirts of the city, the battle ultimately shifts to Carbon Canyon, where territories and reputations can be lost on every perilous curve.
Use your creativity to design your crew's cars with the revolutionary new Autoscuplt car customization tool that gives you the power to turn every vehicle into the car you've always wanted. Represent your car class, your crew, and your streets in Need for Speed Carbon, the next revolution in racing games
Survive the Canyon: Leave the streets to battle rival bosses in the canyons outside the urban centre. All-new Canyon Duel and Drift race modes are the ultimate test of skill and nerve, where one wrong turn could cost you more than the race.
The City Is Yours for the Taking: Race for control of the city block-by-block by taking down rival crews on their turf, then defeat their crew leaders in life-or-death races in Carbon Canyon.
Customize Your Dream Car: The revolutionary new Autosculpt car customization tool Gives you the power to design and morph your car in every way imaginable.
Represent a Class: Affiliate with the Tuner, American Muscle, or Exotic car classes and prove once and for all who makes the best set of wheels. A new physics model makes each car handle and drive differently.
Build Your Crew: Strategically choose your crew members and use their skills on the road and in your garage to help you win races and customize your cars. Designate any member of your crew as a wingman and trigger his special skill to knock out your rivals.
Over 50 Real-World Licensed Cars: Every car is tuneable so you can customize their look and performance to suit your crew.
Customer Reviews
Not one of the best, but...
Not one of the best Need for Speed games, I've played.
But it dose have some nice fetures like the police hot pusute, terottory controls and team racing.
First thing you will notice is that the grapics and sound are like out of a ps2 game, and this could be improved, if the develepers taken more care.
The secound thing you will notice is the button configuration is not like other racing games or even some of the other need for speed games.
So this was quite frustrating, as I am use to hitting X rather than R2.
But this could easly be changed in config.
3rd thing I noticed was the control was a bit stiff compare to need for speed underground 2.
Part from these 3 bad points in the game.
The game as lots to offer for the need for speed fans.
I, my self have become exicted when getting chanced by the police in a hot pussuite.
The game has hot pusute in free roming and in the middle of the race when the aera your in becomes hot.
Boss race of after taking control of most of the rival gang aera.
Break cam, so you can drive in slow motion for a short time while trying to avoide sticky sitasion.
And with online play there is no need to sign in or up to play online unlike underground 2.
But I', guessing thats because you login from the ps3 when you boot up your machine (Signing up to ps3 network)
No need for speed?!
I bought this as a game to play whilst waiting for GT5. I wish I hadn't.
The graphics are straight from the PS2.
Handling is VERY unrealistic.
Almost every race feels the same.
All the cars drive roughly the same with almost no difference in handling.
All in all, I am very upset at having spent so much money. PS3 games aren't the cheapest in the world. I think perhaps this is a game that is definately aimed at the younger (MUCH younger, and I'm only in my 20's!!) audience.
Excuse the pun... steer clear of ths one!!
Not that great
This is really just a "dressing-up game" for boys. Customise your car with chav bodykits and alloys, upgrade the engine, brakes etc. It is clear that this is where the majority of the effort went.
They've also tacked a racing game onto the side, but it's not much cop (if you'll excuse the pun). The Police chases have been scaled down (ah... now you get the pun) and the driving physics are extremely suspect, even for an arcade game.
The graphics are also dark and drab, as the whole game is set at night. This means shorter draw distances which should, in turn, allow even better and more detailed graphics... but it doesn't.
The worst part comes when you attempt the drift trials. Anyone who knows anything about opposite lock drifting will be offended by this part of the game. For a start, the car behaves as if it's on ice, but the truly ridiculous part is the way you don't steer to the opposite lock yourself - the game does it for you! What this means is that when going round a right-hand bend, you keep steering to the right, but if you look at the front wheels of your car - they are turned towards the left! Even Ridge Racer manages more realistic drifting than this!
Frustratingly, Need for Speed: Most Wanted was a far better and more enjoyable game, but it's not available for the PS3.
