Amazon.co.uk Review
The debut album from St Albans quartet Enter Shikari is an impressive testament to one band's spirited self-reliance. Not only does Take To The Skies touch down on Shikari's own homegrown label, Ambush Reality, this is the sort of unlikely soundclash – hardcore punk meets glowstick-waving rave – that millions said wouldn't work, but when done right, very clearly does. Not everyone will get it, of course – you can almost hear the generation gap yawning as "Stand Your Ground; This Is Ancient Land" kicks in - a mix of drum'n'bass snares, trance keyboards, and growled profanity that should leave the older rockers scratching their heads. But like Lostprophets before them, Enter Shikari are clearly something far more than a kiddie fad. The likes of "Mothership" and "Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour" tremor with the sort of earthquake breakdowns and thrash riffs moshpits were made for, and where synthesisers fire up, they do so with a remarkable cohesiveness, adding a surprising, euphoric counterpoint to the barked metal aggression. As with Lostprophets, time will tell if Enter Shikari have the anthems to become part of the metal big leagues, but Take To The Skies is an impressive, energetic starting point. –-Louis Pattison

Dont bother with the DVD4
The album alone I would give 5 stars. Its absolutely incredible, I have been hooked to this band for the last year or so and this doesnt disappoint. Despite already having OK time for plan B, return to energiser, sorry your not a winner, and mothership, I am not disappointed with the rest of the songs on the album. The opening 2 songs just leave u shouting WOW! :] I dont think the reworked vocals on some of the more well known songs are that bad, you notice a difference, but i didnt really care about it when I heard it. My advice is play this LOUD LOUD LOUD!

I gave this version of the album 4 out of 5 simply because I dont really think its worth getting the DVD, unless you were actually there at the Astoria, in which case its nice to see yourself looking sweaty. I've seen enter shikari twice and this live video doesnt do them justice at all. Its cool to see them messing around backstage, but its nowhere near the same as being there. Its also made me realise just how irritating enter shikari fans actually are...a lot of the DVD is a load of 15year olds caressing their girlfriends going on about how original enter shikari are. Mate, I know they're great, its why I bought the CD. If only there was more actual songs (theres only about 3 or 4 played) and less chat.

Otherwise, GET THE ALBUM, AND GO AND SEE ENTER SHIKARI LIVE... THEY'RE AMAAAAZING!

Addictive Debut Album4
I've been a fan of enter shikari for over a year now so I was eagerly anticipating their first album. My first impressions were a little mixed because, a few of the songs that I remember and love have been re-recorded and remixed.
Actually I'd already heard most of the songs. The new ones are no Sssweat which is a frantic, fast paced song, 'today wont go down in history' which displays their good vocal talent on the album, and 'adieu' which is a slower song.
I'll just get the bad out of the way - They murdered the beggining of return to energizer, I have to agree with the other reviewer whosays it is like pillow screaming. That's exactly what its like. So I just try to ignore the first 10 seconds of that song, but the rest is fine.
There seems to be a lot of short interlude songs on this CD which include 'stand your ground in this ancient land. Some of the interludes are actually quite good because they seem to create a central theme throughout the album, and you will find yourself hearing the line "and still we will be here, standing like statues" being chanted quite a bit throughout, which comes from the song titled 'enter shikari'. It's this that makes me want to keep going back to the album and listening because its very addictive to listen to and chant along. However, there are two particular interludes that are just pointless. Tracks 11 and 13. one is 18 seconds long and the other is 35, and they just seem really random, like they've been put there at the last minute. Lastly,I wish they had included 'when a jealous man finds a gun' its my favourite song by them.
But apart from that, after I listened to this a bit more, I grew to love it. 'sorry you're not a winner' is the stand out track which can be easily recognised by the well known clap clap clap. 'Anything can happen...' is also a good track, the re-recording is very good, yet I still prefer the older one. The new version of 'Mothership' on the other hand is more superior this time round because theres a lot more emotion in the vocals and it gives a a new sense of epicness to it.
I think this album is essential for fans of enter shikari because its evident from this debut how much they have grown and become more comfortable with their style. It's also a good purchase for someone looking for something new to listen to, because they wont have heard anything like this before. This band is bound to spawn many imitators but, none will surpass enter shikari. If you are into rock music and synths, buy this, you will probably be hooked on it for ages.
This album is a brave and bold statement for a new genre of modern rock that is going to become even more popular in the future.
Oh, and if you get the chance to see them live, you wont be disappointed, one of the best live acts I've seen.

Pretty damn good!4
I've been into enter shikari for a while now. Some of their songs don't always quite work, others sound amazing. Sorry You're Not A Winner, Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour, and Enter Shikari are standout tracks that work perfectly. Other songs sound awkward and the album kind of drops off towards the end. There is also only really 11 tracks on this album. Including the intro and the closing there are 6 fillers/interludes.

All of this aside, I actually like this album and I like the band. They are creating something slightly different and fresh. In the parts of this album where it all comes together you can really tell that enter shikari are pretty special.

I'd deffinately recomend buying this album. Even if it's not all to your taste you'll find something that you'll like. I personally listen to Sorry You're Not A Winner about 20 times a day.

Artwork is pretty damn sweet as well. Not the clasic metal album artwork which always seem to show death, distruction and fire.
