Customer Reviews

Rarities from a rare talent5
As with all James Yorkston albums it takes 2 or 3 listens to get under the skin of it, but it's another stunner. As other reviewers say - these songs are much much more than 'not quite good enough for the albums'; they all stand up against any of his other music (& some are now my new favourite JY songs). As it's a collection, not an album, the different moods of the songs don't always hang together perfectly, but that's a minimal downside. Perfect autumn, winter, summer, spring, whenever music.

Welcome Winter Nights.5
I admit that it took 4 or 5 listens to appreciate this CD. Having owned and loved his other 3 CD's, I knew it would take time.

But now.......this is fantastic. Some superb songs, poetic folk tunes and plenty of dirgy, lilting, vocally almost not quite there tunes as usual. Reminds me of rainy, wintery nights, just perfect.

St James and the out-takes album.....4
This is rather fine James. Why were most of the tracks left off the three discs you have released thus far !
Without doubt, all the tracks on 'Roaring' would stand up as well as any such is the quality and unique JY delivery.
I've received the promo copy which stacks up identically to the general release. The twelve tracks run out at 50 mins and it's impossible to select any cut for special mention...they're all good !
A great disc to run while your driving up country or sluicing back the vino at the end of a long day.
James Yorkston proves once again that he's a bit of a Nick Drake on the quiet !
