Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Hot US RnB diva follows up 2004's 'Goodies' with this sophomore effort. Whilst not truly presenting any great evolutionin her style, the harsh mechanised electro beats and synthesizer melodies here show that she is still at home with a more cutting-edge sound than many of her contemporaries. Lyrically she continues to be at her best spitting vitriol in thebattle of the sexes. Includes the single 'Like A Boy'.

The Evolution isn't that extreme but is held rather nicely4
Ciara's does show a heap of improvement as promise and it did in fact meet my expectations. Her sophomore album shows growth from her Goodies days and lyrically she has matured and is quite creative in what she says. Her voice is on point but serves a different purpose.

Less crunk and more ballads has been driven throughout this entire album. You will fine that the ballad measurement of this CD is way better than on Goodies and the dance tracks is pretty solid but not as hot. The tracks that stand out to me are Get Up, Promise, My Love, I Proceed, So Hard, Can't Leave Em' Alone, and That's Right. Change is a good thing because Ciara doesn't stick to just one in-house producer instead she hauls in big name producers such as the aforementioned Jerkins, The Neptune's, will-i-am, and Sean Garrett makes this an enjoyable as well. I found the track "I'm Just Me" very mellow for a Neptune's production and won't have you believe that it was produce by them making it an average listen.

Ciara is one great entertainer and is very innovative with her style. Her diva personality is very mellow compare to the other artist out there which makes her a good role model for the younger females. R&B fans that are looking to get this album should do so being that it's something to groove to or mellow out in.

A Successful record doesn't always mean a good record1
If I had a pound for every R'n'B album I reviewed that clocked in at far too many tracks then I'd have, ooh, at least enough for a round of drinks at Wetherspoons's by now. But you get my point. Even though a handful of the 18 tracks on this album are spoken-word interludes there is just way too much on here. If only there was such a thing as quality control.

Mind you, if they'd exercised some quality control on this release, we might have ended up with an E.P. rather than a full blown album.

Don't get me wrong, there is a good track on here; the problem is that that good track is stretched out into nearly every song on the album. So what is initially a good "beat" soon becomes tiring as song after song blurs into one, providing what can only be described as a dull experience.

She might have got away with it if not for the fact that the ballad's that deviate from this formula are even worse.

So quite frankly, if you're considering buying this then don't. Burn three tracks (Bang It Up, I Proceed and Get In, Fit In) and leave the rest on the I-Tunes server. And to be honest, even those three tracks are far from essential. All in all, I wouldn't be looking over my shoulder with all that much fear if I were Beyonce. Once the hype dies down this will be seen for what it really is.

Still, it's gone top of the charts worldwide, so what do I know anyway....

Get an import4
I bought this from Australia because I just couldn't wait to hear it. It arrived, I was happy. I took the cd out of the case and put it in my cd player. Pressed play. The interlude's annoyed me although I could understand that she wanted to share a message with her fans. Upbeat, funky, some fantastic tracks especially 'Like a Boy'. A little disappointing as Goodies was fantastic.... Great for summer.
