With the Hitman series already well established, Danish developer Io Interactive are not exactly masters of the family friendly game. This latest effort is their most violent and shocking yet, as you take control of reluctant mercenary Kane and his schizophrenic partner Lynch. Neither character likes the other but for the purposes of the story they have to work together in a series of violent third person shoot outs. By default you control Kane, with the computer or another player taking on the role of Lynch. As the game progress you will also be able to recruit a team of up to eight mercenaries, with your reputation determining the quality of the personnel applying for the job. Ordering your squad around is easy enough but since any of them, particularly Lynch, can have completely different objectives to you, they won’t always take orders – particularly if they’ve taken a dislike to you already - which is a real problem when you want them to administer some first aid.
Although it is much more action packed than the Hitman games, there are obviously similarities between the two games, with highly interactive environments and multiple ways to approach any problem. One particular highlight already demonstrated involves a kidnapping at a rave with Kane & Lynch firing into the air to disperse a large crowd of dancers before engaging in a brutal gun battle with security guards, as the sound and music system continues to flash and blare. If the rest of the game is just as inventive with its scenarios then Io may well keep Kane and Lynch alive for a little longer.

What on earth happened here?
The dated graphics and physics, awkward animations, no reloading, no skill required to play and all sorts of objects inside other objects (e.g. cars half in the floor EVERYWHERE) aside:
Firstly: You need a 360 controller for co-op. Why you ask? I don't think anyone knows. Basically it means no co-op for anyone without a wired 360 controller.
Secondly: Online multiplayer. What was not menitoned anywhere, is that you have to play using Windows Live. What was also not mentioned is that only Gold members can create servers, and there are no dedicated ones like for the console version. This means that how many servers are there to play online? That's right, ZERO.
So... no co-op, and no online multiplayer for the PC versions unless you want to spend £40 a year for live gold and then anotehr £30 for a controller.
What a mess the PC version has turned out to be!
Not bad
This game is pretty fun, the story is well done, but the gameplay can be a bit of a pain... You will find most the time when trying to find cover the back to wall mechanic doesn't work, it's not like Gears of War where you need to push a button to take cover this game does it automatically, which can be frustrating...
There has been some false things written about this game on a few reviews, so to correct some people. You can play Multiplayer with a silver account, host your own list server and join list servers, you cannot however join/host RANKED servers as that needs gold subscription... I have been playing the game since it came out, and I'll be honest with you, at the best of time there is no servers online for either, normal or Ranked and I'm a gold account holder, so the insinuation that you must pay £32 for Live is just silly, and would be a waste taking into consideration hardly anyone is playing anyway, the game just isn't being played.
CO-OP I can understand peoples complaints... But obviously don't realise co-op isn't online, it's offline. Yes PC has split-screen, which is why one player needs mouse and keyboard and one a 360 pad, or two 360 pads, which ever you prefer. Obviously this was a developer choice to go split screen and it stinks, especially if you have a small monitor, the other frustration you cannot get a logitech pad to work without editing the registry settings, it does work but is a pain to setup.
When you get co-op going it's pretty fun, it's a whole new story seeing the perspective of Lynch, who throughout many sections of the game is cut off, from Kane seeing his pathological episodes is pretty surreal, but fun!
WARNING - dont be fooled
me and 2 friends ordered this to play the 8 player multiplayer game...
only to find we cant. If you want to play 8 man multiplayer you need to sign in to WINDOWS LIVE.
and windows live costs £45 a year.
thanks for not warning me of this anywhere, the developers didnt mention this anywhere. I was already annoyed that i couldnt play the 2 player Coop on LAN (no LAN SUPPORT in 2007 ! what the ***!)
so now me and two friends are sat here gutted that we now cant play unless we shell out £120 between us to get LIVE subscriptions, to play one deathmatch game online...
oh but if we do there are no dedicated pc servers anyway.. so we still cant play..
thanks microsoft thanks eidos, thanks lo-interactive, thanks very much. STEAM is free, and better, i got this on PC so i didnt have to pay for your stupid subscription service i dont want, and now i cant play it.
Plus the game on pc is very bad port. Lots of references in the menu to pressing XBOX 360 controller buttons (im ON A KEYBOARD!) and references to 'system link'.
Furthermore when i try playing the coop mode, it tells me i have to plug in a 360 controller.... WHAT THE ***. im on A PC IM NOT USING A 360 CONTROLLER!
absolutely bizaare and VERY dissapointing.
Thanks VERY much. as far as i know we were told there WAS LAN SUPPORT. the steam listing still says LAN SUPPORT.
Since the games have been manufactured and the pc box now doesnt say lan support, the devs knew about this ages ago and just didnt tell us.
I pre-ordered this game in good faith and this is how they repay me?? thanks SO MUCH.
Learn some manners developers, and that your customers are your lifeblood. i will NEVER buy a game form this dev or publisher again after this. Disgusting. we have 3 paperweights sat here now. THANKS.
MY REVIEW
Singleplayer - buggy and average
2 player coop - cant play - need a 360 CONTROLLER AND SPLIT SCREEN----- IDIOTS!
8 player multiplayer - cant play, need £40 p/year subscription to LIVE EACH, and no dedicated servers...
THANKS
Ps. the only reason this got 1 star is that it didnt have a 0 star option
