Editorial Reviews

CD Description
The pairing of post-bop icon Chick Corea with nu-grass banjo wizard Bela Fleck makes perfect sense. Both are consummatemusicians dedicated to the ideal of fusing disparate stylesinto a protean form that knows no bounds, and creating an ever-shifting music whose only criterion is the beauty of artistic expression.
THE ENCHANTMENT (2007), an album of dialogues between Corea's piano and Fleck's banjo, adheres to the musical standards of both artists. Spare yet complex, beautiful and accessible yet challenging, THE ENCHANTMENT channels Latin ("Senorita"), classical ("A Strange Romance"), bluegrass ("Mountain"), jazz ("Joban dna Nopia"), among other styles, into a seamless musical whole.

Customer Reviews

OK, but didn't do a lot for me3
I had high hopes for this, but found myself unmoved. It lacks variety and just didn't do it for me.

An absolute delight5
Two of the worlds finest, most inventive and most diverse musicians exploring just how much they can do together. And that is a lot. They are clearly enjoying themselves, and that comes through strongly. For me, track 2 is worth the price of the album, but there isn't a weak track on it. Corea's reputation is huge. Bela Fleck deserves to be just as well known, and I think he would be if his chosen instrument wasn't a banjo. So if that might affect your view I urge you not to be influenced by it. Pretend it's an instrument that you haven't heard of and that doesn't have any past associations. That is what Fleck does in all his varied endeavours. Check out "live at the Quick", "Live Art" and "perpetual motion" (that's a classical one). Musical creativity doesn't get better than this

flying duets5
This beautiful set features two great musicians in a sparkling dialogue of amazing originality. If you haven't heard Bela Fleck then prepare for a new experience. He makes the banjo into a subtle and graceful instrument, akin to flamenco guitar. Chick Corea is possibly the greatest and most versatile jazz pianist alive and performing on the planet and here he plays with masterful delicacy and fantastic invention. The result is a true musical conversation between masters. My album of the year, which I play over and over again.
