Prepare to enter a whole new dimension with Super Paper Mario on Wii! The planet's favourite plumber returns in the third Paper Mario game, bringing a different perspective to the series as he calls on old friends - and foes - to help him tackle a mysterious enemy from a bizarre parallel universe. Lead Mario in his quest to overthrow the evil Count Bleck before he succeeds in creating a Chaos Heart and bringing about the end of the world as we know it, playing as Luigi, Princess Peach and Bowser along the way as you free them from captivity. With the Wii Remote held sideways like the traditional NES controller, Mario's quest starts off as a classic platform adventure - but appearances can be deceiving! With a press of the A Button, your perspective on the world changes from 2D to 3D, and the seemingly flat worlds gain hidden depth, with plenty of secrets to be discovered. An involving mixture of RPG and platform elements, Super Paper Mario offers a huge adventure spread over eight eye-catching environments with something new to discover around every corner. Enlist the aid of Pixl sidekicks along your path to gain special skills. By pointing the Wii Remote at the screen for example, you can get secret information and reveal hidden objects along the way!

Manufacturer's Description
Mario and Luigi are enjoying a lazy afternoon at their house when they hear the terrible news: Princess Peach has been kidnapped! The two brothers head straight for Bowser's castle to get her back, but Bowser is just as surprised about Peach's kidnapping as they are. At that moment, a strange top-hatted villain warps in and abducts everyone but Mario. The mysterious villain then forces Peach and Bowser to get married, creating a rift of dark energy that threatens to tear the universe apart! Only Mario can save the day...but he can't do it alone.
What at first glance appears to be your classic 2-D adventure ripped straight from the stylized pages of the Paper Mario universe, soon turns into an hysterical 3-D action game possible only on Wii!
Early on, the 2-D side-scrolling game play appears to be reminiscent of New Super Mario Bros. But as soon as Mario learns the ability to flip between dimensions, players will be constantly flipping between 2-D and 3-D to pass perilous pits, find hidden coins and passages, and talk to characters who are visible only in 3-D.

It's simple but fun
First of, this is a game that seems aimed at the 'retro' gamer. If you want the best and newest in all things Mario, go buy Galaxy. If you want to reminise about playing your SNES as a young teenager then buy this!
The intro is excessively long - quite frustratingly so! but once you get past it, the game is great. The controls are intuitive to any old Mario platform gamer, so it doesn't take long to get on your way.
(So far) the game is not the most challenging (so far) - but the old Mario titles never were either, but the ability to 'flip' between 2-D and 3-D gives this game enough of an edge to make it refreshing.
There's a definte market who will love this game - if you're looking for retro Mario fun on your Wii - then buy this game!
mario :D
I disagree with the people that are giving this game 1 star i think its worth at least 4 stars, in my opinion
i like the idea of a 2-d/3-d mario game
the only dissapointing thing about this game is the long cut scenes (boring!)which u cant skip which gets on your nerves.
at one point on the game when i was on chapter 2-2 just after speaking to mimi or whatever her name is, the game froze which ive read some reviews on this and some people are getting the same problem. i have no idea what is causing this but i got past chapter 2-2 and the game hasnt froze since
There are two reasons why this isn't my favourite game now; one is Super Smash Bros. Melee; the other is Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Unfortunately, I've yet to play either of the other two entries to the Paper Mario series, but this quasi-platformer departure from the typical Mario RPG formula still has enough depth to make for an enjoyable experience.
The game follows Mario into a new dimension he has been prophesised to save by defeating a mysterious being that plans to bring destruction to every dimension through the marrying of Peach and Bowser. While this suggests that the game holds many Mario RPG-style quirks from the beginning, things pick up as the story progresses with numerous jokes and parodies guaranteed to at least evoke a smirk, including many references to the Mario series on the whole.
An interesting thing about the game itself is that it has too many RPG elements (like levelling up and making use of NPC shops) to simply call a platformer, yet too many platforming elements (such as the general 'get from point A to B' objective through the levels) to simply call an RPG, making for an intriguing mix.
The majority of the game has you progressing through individual levels set across a number of dimensions as you make use of the likes of Mario's ability to flip from 2D to 3D, Peach's ability to lengthen the distance she can jump and defend herself with a parasol, and Bowser's extra strength and fire breath ability to save each dimension and their amiable inhabitants. In addition to each character's strengths, they can be strengthened further still with help from Pixls, peculiar life forms that cause a number of helpful effects like carrying characters over spiked pits, or shrinking characters to allow them access to places they couldn't normally reach. The main Pixl who offers her assistance from the beginning is also the game's main use of any Wii-style pointing functions as she can be used to provide hints on what to do next or how to defeat enemies that lie in your way, simply by pointing at them and pressing `A'. As I followed its development from back when this game was originally developed as a Gamecube game, I personally feel as though this function is tacked on, yet making use of it only seems to add to the enjoyment.
While the main game itself does not hold a huge amount of challenge, those seeking more enjoyment from the title can venture through extra dungeons offered by the game, go treasure-hunting through the dimensions they've saved from peril or go to the in-game arcade when you need a break from questing, or just want to make use of the game's other Wii-specific pointing or motion functions.
While not a full RPG or a full platformer, this game should offer full on enjoyment for those looking for some old-school fun.
