Wonderful return from a wonderful singer5
Hurrah! Paula Cole is back, and with a more mellow album than her previous ones (that is neither good nor bad thing).

You won't really find tracks like "Me", "I don't want to wait", the driving bass and drums of "Pearl", or the angrier passion of tracks like "Tiger" or "Throwing Stones" here. Paula's life has changed since then, so as a collection of songs and sounds it's not as eclectic as her previous albums and as such perhaps doesn't show her range as much. Maybe that comes from this album not being self-produced though, and being more constrained, who knows.

However, this is not to criticise, because the presence of her heart and introspection in the songs is no less evident than it ever was. As a result this collection of songs is neither warmer nor colder for being more mellow-sounding, and Paula is still as awesome to listen to as ever.

Whatever the sounds, Paula Cole writes and sings with an honesty and heart that you are hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Simply wonderful.

Excellent. Why is she almost no known in UK?5

Every time I listen to Paula Cole, I wonder why people do not know her in UK. I am sure if she gets better publicity, she will be one of the most beloved singers in our generation.

However, she is so unfortunate - he first CD, Harbinger, was shelved for a long time even though this debut album was of superb quality. It seems she does not get enough exposure to media (maybe this is what she wants though), so people outside US seldom know her.

But take my word, and listen to her music. Her 1st "Harbinger" and 2nd "This Fire" will definitely be two of my desert island disks. The intensity, passion and the edgy originality those CDs have are not something easily attained by other singers. As for her 4th "Courage", just listed to 'El Greco', 'Lonelytown', '14', 'Hard to be soft' (I mostly agree with the reviewer below - yes, her fist two albums have much more edge, but I do LOVE this song!)

I recently played her 4th "Courage" when I threw a dinner party - people were going "Who is she? Why haven't I ever heard of her before??". 6 people already bought her CD (from US. This CD is not available in UK yet)!

What a wonderful artist she is.

Amen Paula is back!4
Paula Cole has finally returned to the recording studio with another great album of superbly crafted music.
I purchased this CD from Amazon.com (import only in uk so far) and it has hardly been of my cd player, initially i was a little dissapointed with some of the tracks but it is a grower.
Paula has moved on (mellowed?) musically with a more easy listening style and even some jazz type tracks which are very different from 1999s Amen album.
The standout tracks for me include the opener "Comin Down", Lovelight, 14, El Greco and I Wanna Kiss You.
The album would have made 5 stars but i cannot get into some of the easy listening tracks such as Hard to be Soft and In our Dreams.
Paula, its good to have you back, one of the best unsung artists in the world.
