Editorial Reviews

Manufacturer's Description
It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colours, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitation of the usual 10bit DAC become in particular apparent while using large screens and projectors.

192kHz/24 bit audio DAC enhances analogue sound input

192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.

High quality outputs for analogue and digital audio

Plays CD, (S)VCD, DVD, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW

Play virtually any disc you want - whether they be CDs, (S)VCDs, DVDs, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW or DVD-RW. Experience unbeatable flexibility and the convenience of playing all your discs on one device.

Plays MP3, WMA and JPEG digital camera photos

Play MP3s, WMA and JPEGs, and experience the convenience of sharing media files on your TV or home theatre system - in the comfort of your living room.

Progressive Scan component video for optimised image quality

Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.

Ultra-slim design that fits anywhere

    Great for the price4
Note that you can open/close the tray by holding down STOP on the remote, as with previous Philips players.

As a straightforward no-frills machine, this is great at the price. I'm not expecting great reliability; I bought this to replace an older model that failed after about 5 years. I was going to get a different brand, but this one still looks better and in another 5 years, I'll probably want blu-ray.

    What a great DVD Player!5
What a great DVD Player and what a hero Kalpesh is!

Kalpesh , thank you so much for your tips.

I have a few DVDs that I could either not play or could only play in black and white and now I can play them all in colour! Your advice has been first class and very clear.

The player would not have been a 5 star without Kalpesh's tips.

    I am delighted with it!

    Just a little dissapointed3
Having purchased the Philips because although l only wanted a reliable unit after always buying what l thought were good deals in used units, l put my first dvd in and made myself comfy to watch a good but some may say oldie (well l like them) only to have the experience a little clouded. The film kept freezing and although l removed the dvd and cleaned it with dvd fluid, it kept doing the same thing. The picture was great, the sound as good as l could expect, the whole experience just a little lower than l had built myself up to expect. I know it was cheap, but it is new, and it is Philips. My wife is a tidyholic and had the carton split and into the cardboard bin before l had time to stop her, so l rule out a return, but would be grateful for any suggestions, l can't be the only one it has happened to. I would end by stating the reproduction is 1st rate and the sound great, opening the disc holder could be a little clearer as l note from another customer, but l can happily live with that. Any advice is welcome.
