Worth buying for an odour free nursery
As first time parents, we bought this blindly as a sort of experiment when our son was born. Basically, you place the soiled nappy into the nappy bin, twirl the lid thingy and it is wrapped up compactly ready to receive the next nappy. When it contains approx 50 nappies, you put the lid on, twist to break off the wrapper, and empty it into a normal bin bag etc. It sounds fiddly but it isn't. Its clean and hygienic and saves you having a bin full of nappy sacs anywhere near the nursery. It doesn't leave an odour, although I wouldn't keep it next to a radiator, and a quick squirt of anti bac spray all around does the trick when you're changing the cartridge. The cartrdiges are available in all supermarkets that we have been to, next to the nappies and wipes. I haven't given it five stars because nothing really makes dirty nappies a barrel of laughs, but this is clean, convenient and once you get the hang of it, its actually very easy.
A wonderful product
A previous reviewer has got the maths wrong! The cassette doesn't only wrap 28 nappies it wraps about 100 nappies and lasts around 1 month. The bin holds about 28 nappies before it is full, but the wrap is tied off then restarted. Really the review should be about how well the product works rather than whether the reviewer can afford it! Personally we have found it invaluable. Certainly it is a luxury rather than an essential - but looking after a baby is hard work and anything which makes life easier is a welcome relief.
Bin always smells!
I had been given the Angelcare nappy bin as a present and decided to buy the Tommee Tippee nappy wrapper for upstairs. I found that you could still smell the nappies through the nappy liners provided and that the bin needed cleaning all the time, just to get rid of the smell. We threw out the old nappies daily and yet the bin still smelt terrible and left an awful skint in my baby's nursery. With the Angelcare nappy bin, you cannot smell the nappies through the liner and it is smaller and much more compact.
The Angelcare nappy bin has a cutter on it to cut the bin liner, which is really easy, you just slide the bin liner through it. The Tommee Tippee cutter was impossible and much more complicated than it needed to be! It involves pressing a button whilst trying to turn the top part of the bin!
While I think these nappy bins are a good idea, and certainly more pleasant than just throwing dirty nappies in the bin with your leftover foods etc, this one is just a waste of money & time. Stick to the Angelcare one and you won't go wrong!
