Top quality and adds a new dimension to music CDs5
I did not want to write a review on this product until I had a few weeks use. A few weeks have now passed and I'm happy to write a positive review for a quality piece of kit.

Let's face it all surround sound is only as good as the film itself. Place the stand in a central wall position, try it with the right film and prepare to be amazed.

For quite some time I wanted to change my surround sound system. Mainly to remove the usual cables all over the place problem. After reading countless reviews I finally decided to go ahead and buy the Sony RHT-G800.
At first it felt a bit odd maybe down to my brain knowing that there are no speakers behind you. But once I gave up thinking about it and trying a few more films this product is fantastic. I skipped through several films to find action parts I knew would test this system.

For example in Aliens there are constant space station background noises all around. And when a flame thrower is used there is a definite loud noise behind you. You would swear you have a loud speakers behind your head. Makes you wonder how the sound can first get past you. Then feel as it it's coming from the opposite side of the room to RHT-G800 stand.

The first Blade film was also very impressive . I'm not sure how it does it but it feels like the bullet shots go behind you and actually hit your walls. Unlike my previous surround sound system any sound that goes with the on screen action appear to be at the correct height in the room. Again in Blade when a man in a bar draws on his cigar the noise appears directly under the cigar. This sound seems so real and has on occasion caught me out. In one film when someone poured a drink the sound went below the TV exactly where the drink was being poured.

As mentioned in my review title music CDs also sound so much clearer than previously. Even though I'm using the same device to play them on. On certain CDs, with acoustic guitars etc, it sounds like the instruments are actually in front of you. And where two people are singing you can practically pinpoint where they are standing. Hard for me to explain this or put into words. But I'm sure other people who have heard this system will agree.

    Thank you Sony.

    One BIG problem2
The stand looks great. Its stylish and drastically reduces messy cabling. BUT it does distort\vibrate badly at certain frequencies. If you check around the forums you'll find other people have also hit this problem. Whats more because its only certain frequencies you'll watch a couple of films, think its great and the period during which you can return it will lapse. Then you watch something like Rendition where it distorts all over the place and find yourself trying to sort it under SONY's 1 year warranty - which is then much harder to get a resolution. The stand looks so nice its probably worth 250 in its own right but I can't recommend it as a surround sound system and its current price.

    "Excellent product very pleased"4
After doing a lot of research on sound systems for my small but square living room i decided this was the product i was looking for. This is the only official product on the market offering 5.1 cabinet & hdmi output all in the same sentence.

The cabinet looks great underneath my 37inch flat screen TV and the sound is impressive especially if you use hdmi via your HD or Blu-ray player. I would avoid analogue cables on this thing if you can help it.
Forget putting the cabinet in the corner of the room its a waste of time you wont get any surround effect from it, the cabinet has to be central at one end of the room to get any benefit from the enveloping speakers.

I would recommend this cabinet to anyone that loves their movies especially on High-def which is where your get the most benefit.
