good system
Purchased my HTSS1100 recently from sony shop, bit more expensive than online but they did do a deal and will price match if other suppliers are showing item in stock. The slight extra cost was worth it so i could get home and set up without the wait.
Easy set up with HDMI and optical leads giving good picture and sound, am running xbox, virgin v box and new sony dvp-ns78 upscaling dvd player on 32 inch hd ready sony.
I bought all these after looking through many reviews and related magazines and am very pleased with the result, this surround system has certainly made xbox much more involving and the many hdmi and optical ports makes it future proof for a good while, all in all great performance for the price.
Question: since setting up my htss1100 the voices from some tv programmes occasionally go out of sinc, have tried v box settings but seems ok, has anyone had similar problem and any advice?

Beautifully Simple!
These things are hard to get hold of. No sooner than they appear in stock, then they sell out again. I did eventually get mine from Amazon, but now I see they are out of stock yet again. So why is that?

Well simply speaking this system is one great piece of kit. I'm no audiophile at all, but even I can tell what an amazing difference it makes having one of these. At a very reasonable price too.

Now it obviously doen't come with a DVD player, but that gives it flexibility. Like others I have a PS3 and Xbox360 running through it (and I use the PS3 as a Media Centre, for BR/DVD/Streamed content playback.) The Sony HTSS1100 automatically detects the surround input and gives a great sound out from the 6 speaker package. Initial set-up is a breeze as it's automatic (using a supplied mic for positioning), but you can still tweak levels with a test tone.

Things to note though, this will only process Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital and dts. But it won't handle Dolby Digital Plus, dts-HD or Dolby TrueHD. But what do you expect for this price. HDMI only passes through too so no audio processing is done from HDMI, you'll need a separate optical lead (not supplied) for that. There is a Co-axial lead supplied though.

All-in-all an excellent piece of kit at a respectable price. If you just need a surround system and don't need built in DVD playback, then I strongly recommend one of these Sony's. Perfect for PS3s and Xbox360s.

This is a great price from Amazon for a great piece of kit. Ive recently installed this system at home on a 42inch screen, with Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and dvd player, its got that many connections! even the fm radio sounds amazing.
The clarity is excellent, the setup is simple (it can do it automatic for you) and there is enough speaker cable for a good sized room. The remote has all the functions you could ever need and you can easily switch between different components.
if you own a PS3 or games console and youve never rigged it up to Dolby Surround, then it will blow you away! the whole experience you get from simply upgrading your home audio to something like this system is amazing. Films feel more like a cinema and games feel like your in them! The HTSS1100 is without doubt one of the best bits of kit ive ever bought. even my girlfriend loves it and she was dead against the idea of wires hanging around (i hid them in trunking to keep her happy) but once she heard the sound she said she couldnt wait to watch a film.
totally recommend this sytem to anyone entering the world of Dolby 5.1 surround sound. excellent
