A nice buy for Macbook upgrades amongst others
For all those multi OS users out there this is a great little product.Every Mac owner is very likely to upgrade their hard drive to a 250 gb or more and be left over with a high quality SATA 2.5" (60 gb or more)Hd. This is a little ripper of an enclosure. It's small, neat and comes with a little protective wallet. The drive just slots in and you affix the 4 screws supplied. Close the case, insert and tighten the screws and away you go. Format the drive using disk utility and you have a great, file transfer/backup drive that is fast, reliable and and is little bigger, or smaller than a wallet depending upon ones personal financial situation of course. For Mac users make it a multi system disk and partition using FAT32for ones windows files. Mac disk utility has no size limitation. Your Windows and Mac machines can both view this partition. This is a great, snazzy enclosure and capacity/space wise is significantly superior than a flash drive for moving media files about. (I also own and use 8.4,2 gb pen drives. This just depends upon size and space). I just had to buy it when the price came down.Use your own screwdriver if you own a good set. I feel that this is a good buy. This can also be used as an albeit slow startup drive (This has been tested) with Intel Macs so it's good for use as a system backup for the paranoid amongst us.
Useful following PS3 HD upgrade
I had a spare 40gb disk following a PS3 HD upgrade. This enclosure is perfect for converting the replaced HD into a useful USB backup device.
The brief manual isn't that good (English is not the author's first language) and a driver disk was not included despite being listed in the manual as being included. You do get a screwdriver, the necessary lead (it uses two USB ports for the 5v power it needs), and a handy wallet for storing it safely.
You'll need to Google for the advice and tools necessary to partition the drive for the necessry NTFS and FAT32 partitions if you want the PS3 to recognise it. It took me quite a while to get it all sorted, but its working fine now.
Does the job....eventually!
Looks great, lovely soft touch casing but the supplied instructions from the manufacturer are hopeless, i was using this case to hold my old ps3 hdd after an upgrade but the enclosure and hdd would not be recognized by my laptop at all. Turns out the drive needed to be initialized via the 'computer management' section in XP but the instructions with the enclosure gave no clue to this. Anyhoo, found instructions regarding this on the web and away it went, perfect. Very happy with suppliers communications too, they were happy to give a refund untill i informed them that it was working fine.
For ps3 upgrades i would recommend this enclosure but the process is not quite as simple as you would wish for, will be the same with all enclosures though
