Since PILGRIMAGE arrived I've listened to it perhaps a hundred times. It is often on REPEAT in my car/kitchen CD player.
The more you listen, the more you hear. Pure joy.
If you've not heard of Michael Brecker but like John Coltrane or Wayne Shorter, give this man a listen. You may, as I found to be true, suddenly find yourself in possession of everything he recorded.
Also, if you're a Pat Metheny fan, you get some of PM's best playing too.

Best til last?
When I saw this advertised as Michael Breckers last recording before his untimely death I was concerned that it might turn out to be disappointing considering the illness he was suffering. Not a bit, this is easily up tjere amongst his best. Memorable tunes, great playing from all concerned. An essential purchase.
Brecker Swansong - still [ushing all the right buttons
To have reached this point you will have some idea of who Mike Brecker was. Recorded last August, just before a premature death from leukaemia, the line-up betrays the great respect this present-day A-list saxman was held in - (apart from Michael Brecker: tenor saxophone, EWI) there were: Pat Metheny: guitars; Herbie Hancock: piano (1, 5, 6, 9); Brad Mehldau: piano (2, 3, 4, 6, 7); John Patitucci: bass; Jack DeJohnette: drums.
Nuff said?
The tracks span his repertoire and give little away of his state of health. If you haven't yet invested in any Brecker, this must surely be a good place to start.
Enjoy
