Marvellous McFly
Motion in the Ocean is a great album - probably McFly's best so far. This version of the album includes the new single "Baby's Coming Back" on it as well as a DVD of their concert at Wembley in 2006.
McFly's 3rd Album is quite possibly their best so far - if not just behind Room On The 3rd Floor. Motion In The Ocean see's them combine their last 2 albums in way. The Room On The 3rd Floor influence is obvious in songs like 'Star Girl' and 'Please, Please' - The Singles and possibly 'Friday Night' which is a highlight. But they write some beautiful ballads as well which are the main part of the album, basing on a Wonderland type approach. 'Bubble Wrap' I Think is the best song on the album and is a must hear track which probably won't be a single but should be. 'Little Joanna', 'Don't Stop Me Now' and the apparebtly upcoming single 'Sorrys Not Good Enough' are heavily piano based and all great ballads. But on this album McFly also take an edgier side and go slightly alternative. This is clear on 'Transylvania' which was on the Star Girl single and is great. They go rockier on 2 tracks being 'We Are The Young' - also on the Star Girl single, and 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' which is the song that was their World Cup Bid. Both tracks are fantastic. A bit of a different track on the album in some ways is 'Walk In The Sun' which is one of my favourites as it is Danny's chance to show off and he does it well with voice and acoustic guitar. The only other track i haven't covered yet is 'Lonely' which reminds you of their 2nd ever single 'Obviously' but with a slighly darker side but still is brilliant. The new track 'Babys Coming Back' - a cover of the old Jellyfish hit is a bit of a grower. It really grows and sticks in your head, probably why they have released this. At the same time though, this is a very good cover version - something that McFly have almost become experts at already.
The main reason a fan would buy this though is not the new track but the DVD. If you liked the Wonderland Tour DVD then you will love this one. It is also heavily based on the 1st album as well, with most songs being taken off 'Room On The 3rd Floor', which makes it worth getting even if you are scepticle about the last 2 albums. McFly are proving to be a very good band live as well. The usual classic McFly songs are on the DVD - the likes of 'All About You', 'Obviously', 'Room on the 3rd Floor' and many more, but the real standout of this DVD is the album tracks that McFly perform. Danny's live acoustic performance of 'Not Alone' is quite possibly better than the album version with a bit of harmonica thrown in to the live version. Another highlight is 'We Are The Young', one of the bands most popular songs off the new album and could easily have been a single - and is awesome live. The other standout, as weird as it sounds is the Drum Solo. Harry leads off with the drums and then the rest of the band come on and play a quite simply breathtaking drum piece.
If you are a McFly fan then this is a must have - and if you have gone off them lately then try this - if the CD doesnt take your fancy then the DVD is sure too.
WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!!!!!!!
Okay, so I already owned the Motion in the Ocean album from when it first came out, but I bought this anyways because I really wanted the DVD and it is a really good price! I wasn't really sure how the DVD would be, though, and after having just watched it I must tell you that IT IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY...and more!! The songs McFly play on the DVD are all hits, their voices sound amazing (as usual), and the videoing of the Wembley concert is great. I feel like I'm actually there when I watch this DVD. You should definitely NOT hesitant even ONE moment before buying this. McFly are the best and most talented band EVERRRRRRR and this CD/DVD package proves it - 150%.
some of there best, some of there worst.
ive been looking into buying this album for a while now, but for some reason ive always been a bit skeptical, Ive always liked mcfly because I think despite the fact they are pop they are clearly talented and ive always strongley defended them against people who passed them off as a manufactured boy band, (and i'm a 21 year old musicain and music fan) so i'm not a teenager and I apreciate good music of any genre(one of my fave bands being A and lead singer Jason perry worked on some of these songs with the band), after borrowing there first album of a friend and liking it, I brought wonderland in a sale and I was very impressed with that as well as I thought it had great pop rock songs, showed great diversity, and also had some good ballads without bordering on to poppy or sentimental, and "she falls asleep" showed emense talent, so when i saw this was being brought out with a DVD i decided to give this a try, (I have the live at manchester tour which convinced me enough to buy tickets to see them on there greatest hits tour in november)I gave it a listen after hearing the CD I feel that the band have improved on there talent for writing catchy pop/rock tracks with "star girl" "please, please" and "friday night" being amongst the best they've ever done, with them slightly sounding like early mcfly but with much more of a rock sound to them rather than pop.
but the slow tracks are where the album borders to much on sugery, sentimetal, pop for my liking (the lyrics in Little joanna) walk in the sun is not bad and has some nice guitar playing, and bubble wrap and lonely are a bit to slow and poppy for my liking, not bad but with great tracks like the first 4 and transylvaina, they kind bring the album down a bit, a lot of people will love this and mcfly fans who found wonderland a bit heavy going will probally love it, and for the price the DVD alone is worth it, but I wish they would cut back the sentimetal pop and concentrate on writing what there best at pop/rock and on there ballards more serious darker thought provoking styles.
