Amazon.co.uk Review
The greatest battle of the new football season is not between any real world club but between the virtual giants of FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer. Konami's game has always been the favourite but last year FIFA closed the gap to such a degree that the title race has never been closer. This year's FIFA uses a completely new game engine, for the first time built specifically for the next gen consoles. But improved graphics and animation are only the half of it, with just as much focus going on the artificial intelligence thanks to the new "35 point decision engine". What this basically means is that every player on the pitch is fully aware of those around him and constantly thinking about tactics and position when not under your control.
Other changes include better modelled physics for taking a shot on goal, which take into account everything from air pressure to the angle of your foot. You're also able to create your own special moves to replicate every possible trick from real life. There are also new game modes including Be A Pro which challenges you to play the role of a single player through a whole season or career. On top of this there are revamped online leagues to play a virtual season in the Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division against real opponents. With 620 licensed teams, 30 offline leagues and 15,000 players as well FIFA might just have made enough new signings this year to put it over the top.

Manufacturer's Description
FIFA 08 challenges players to master the skills required to play like a professional soccer player. Fans around the world can experience the same highs and lows of real-world players and tackle the challenges they face on a daily basis.
The FIFA Soccer 08 next-gen gameplay engine, built to maximize the power of the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system and the PLAYSTATION 3 computer and entertainment system, delivers animations and ball control that is so responsive you feel like you are actually on the pitch. Players are now aware of their surroundings, reacting authentically to threats and opportunities to make intelligent decisions.
Now with the FIFA 08 shooting system you can enjoy even more control and precision in front of the goal to become a true marksman.
For the first time ever, fans playing FIFA 08 will face the pressure to improve their game that real-world players endure every day. A new play mode called Be A Pro locks you in the role of a single player and challenges you to master the same disciplines as a real professional player--from positioning and tackling to reading the field and passing.
FIFA 08 now gives every football fan the chance to perform pro skills with a true next-generation organic â~building-blockâ system. You can combine tricks and skill moves together to recreate signature moves from the real-world superstars or define your own style of play. You can even capture video of your best moves and goals in-game and upload to the FIFA 08 website to show off your style and celebrate your glory with friends across the globe.
The award-winning Interactive Leagues debuts on the Xbox 360 and the PLAYSTATION 3 as part of the deepest online feature set to date. Represent your club online (Internet connection required for online play) against your rivals throughout the season in the F.A. Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division. When they play, you play. Plus, create and organise your own multiplayer Friends Leagues and tournaments with all the tools in-game.
In addition, FIFA 08 is dramatically more real and exhilarating with the inclusion of 620 licenced teams, 30 official leagues, and more than 15,000 players

Very good but far from perfect
I've been playing this game for about a week now and its really challenging and enjoyable. The graphics are awesome and the sounds is great. Excellent commentary by Martin Tyler and Andy Gray of Sky Sports.
I think the speed of the game is actually fairly realistic. And the whole thing is really addictive and exciting. Definitely the best football game around at the moment.
The nagging problems that i find with this game are the control issues. The response times are way too slow. When you tackle and win the ball and need to sprint at the defence, sometimes you need to change direction immediately when attempting to go round a couple of defenders. But the delayed player response means that you have to wait up to a second from when you set the angle on the stick to seeing the player respond on the screen. BAD BAD BAD and this is totally unrealistic and annoying. Also, especially when trying to weave your way towards the opponents penalty area, the response time to deliver the perfect through ball is unbelievably slow. The amount of times i've hit the through-ball button while my target player is well on side only to see him run well off side by the time my player releases the ball has cost me hundreds of important goal scoring opportunities. And it takes a lot of fun and realism out of the game. It means that you have to learn to respond before its actually time to respond. Also, the shooting control can be much improved as well. If they iron these annoying bugs out, i think this game will be near perfect. I'd like to see a way to save classic goals on the hard drive too :)
Good, not great.
Pro 6 forced me to buy this game. Having played the demo of pro 2008 and fifa 8 I decided to give fifa a go. I needed a new footie game and thought pro 2008 wasn't different enough from the last one and that pro 6 wasn't that good. So is fifa any good?
Well yes, graphically superior to pro, lisenced teams, excellent sound track, easy to navigate menu, solid online play and loads of games modes. The gameplay itself is a totally different kettle of fish to pro's arcade style of play. This really does feel like a simulation when you first start, with the emphasis on a slow methodical approach in order to create your chances. At first it is very frustrating, with chances few and far between, but as with any game once you've worked out what the AI is going to do it becomes a lot easier.
Bad points ? Well the trick system is very difficult to actually use effectively and therefore a bit pointless. The AI players on your team are running strictly on rails, so when you try to take control of them they can sometimes turn the wrong way, which is very frustrating, especially in online matches, the keeper is also rather useless at coming off his line when you tell him.
Overall this is a solid football game, not brilliant as some would have you believe, nor shocking either. Is it better than pro? I can't really answer that, the 2008 demo wasn't different enough from the pro 6 version for me to want to buy it. I've usually gone for pro in the past but have become increasingly frustrated with how the series has got worse as they've gone on. So fifa 08 wins this round for me, it's different from the last version of pro I played, not better or worse.
Good
Its a realy good game a lot better than FIfa 06 and 07 but the thing tht makes me lose it a star is that u cant create a payer and make him full at everything and on be a pro u can only play online or offline but they are like kick off games I think be a pro would be amazing if EA kinda made it like manager mode like your player gets transferd to other clubs n stuff lik tht.
Over all this is an amazing game and any1 thinking of buying it should
