Product Description

Key to PES 7 is a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision. Unique to the Konami game, Teamvision is a sophisticated AI programming that learns and adapts according to an individuals style of play. As such, it will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements and previous attacking or defensive errors, ensuring games are more in line with the tactical but flowing nature of the real thing.

With the Pro Evolution Soccer series renowned for its fluid, realistic gameplay, the new game builds on the implementation of Teamvision with additional key advances. As with previous releases since its inception in 1996, the ball is again treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.

Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008s on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high stakes match. Set-pieces have been improved, with full control given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team.

PRO EVO 2008 on PES3---- SO DISAPPOINTING3
If i can start the review by saying how much I've enjoyed the entire Pro Evo series and that it is definitely the best football series on any platform ever.
So with much anticipation I have awaited PRO EVO 2008. The game itself has improved in terms of realism. For example, Keepers dont save shots they shouldnt, and save the ones they generally should. Making them a little more consistent.

The passing and ball control is even more crisp and the tackling has also been enhanced. It's now not so easy to pick the ball up with a top player (like Adriano in PES6) and sprint the length of the pitch right through the midddle of the opposition.
So in these respects the game has improved...

But - and it is a big BUT there are some major niggles.
The framerate is poor on the PS3. On replays and film shots the jerky animation is exceedingly disappointing. If you played the old PES on Wide camera angle- then be prepared to change. This angle suffers from the worst kind of "lag" during game play. It makes it so hard to play and follow the game. I describe it as lag (but it isnt strictly) because its similar to when you played someone online in the old version who had a slow internet connection.

Players dont transition smooth on the screen when there's lots of action. The ball skips around and this is all made worse during the replay.
You can make this better by using a HD TV, and install the game onto the console itself. I even found using Normal Long as a different camera angle helped. But is this what you should have to do after paying £40 for a "next gen" game? It certainly isnt...
To add to matters, less important things are still there. Apalling menu music -why do Konami bother? Quite simply turn it off as soon as you load up the game for the first time. The menu layout is still the same and some of the editing has been restricted. The Master league is exactly the same, despite assurances it would be revamped. WHY?

From a game that promised so much it has left me wondering whether for the first time in 7 years I should return to the FIFA side. A tough one and something i would never have imagined thinking. Other users dont experience the same level of problems as others. However the issues are still there to be seen. Its just a case of deciding wether you (given the superb standard of previous PES releases) can overlook the glaring faults that this has to offer on the PS3.
I for one cant!

Own Goal by PES3
I must say, I'm really disappointed, all in all a waste of £40. I was expecting something grand, something amazing - a football game worthy PES's standards and rich history. My expectations were further elevated by a review by IGN - they gave it a great 8/10. When I played the game though, I was mightily disappointed. The first thing you notice is that dribbling is ridiculously easier, which is great for beginners, I suppose, but it feels horrible of the more experienced player. The second thing is that the ball is much lighter which diminishes the feeling of realism. In PES 6,when you passed the ball or hit a shot, you could feel the weight of the ball, which enabled you to tell whether your pass or shot would be successful. In PES 2008 though, this feeling is greatly reduced. That is not to say that gameplay is terrible, because it isn't, but it certainly well below PES's high standards. The music and the commentary is two of the worst aspects of the game. Track list is just horrible and extremely annoying, unless you're a big fan of pap music. The commentary by Jon Champion is bearable but Mark Lawrenson, with his unemotional and uninterested performance, makes it terrible. Don't get me wrong, Mark Lawrenson is so bad that, not only do you know that he is reading a script, but you can also clearly spot commas in individual sentences. Graphically the game looks decent enough when viewing from the default camera (if you can forget about the slowdowns in the frame rate), however when viewing a replay, the graphics become really choppy and rather ugly. One of the worst things is the crowd. While there are some nice cutscenes of the fans waving flags and cheering, in replay view the fans are pixelated 2D shapes that vaguely resemble human beings. You would think that with all that next gen power and capability Konami could have done a better job. Another slightly anoying problem is that, in replay mode or cutscenes if zoomed in, the pitch can be pixelated. Also, for some reason the edit mode has received some cuts. To make things worse, I've discovered that IGN is an official sponsor of PES 2008, so the review that elevated my expectations so much was clearly biased.

My best advice is to rent the game before (instead of) buying it.

In terms of FIFA v PES, this year it's 1 - 0 to FIFA, and it's an own goal PES.

The height of Cheek1
This game should never have been released. Forget the horrible Frame rate which may be repaired. Forget the absolutely terrible commentary, these new guys are just reading old lines badly.

Lets concentrate on the gameplay, that's the really important thing.

Can really slow defenders outrun really fast players like Robben in real life?

obviously not!

But if they get the ball can they do it then?

Obviously not!

They can in Pro Evo 2008!

Watch in amazement as Carvalho steals the ball off Ronaldo and then out runs Kaka all the way down the pitch and manages to get a pretty good shot off.

The way the players run is a complete joke, road runner springs to mind.

This game just should not have been released!!!

and what about IGN giving it a rave review. They are just not to be taken seriously ever again! As soon as you start playing and see IGN logos plastered all over the place you soon realise they have paid a good bit of money to sponsor PES and that's why they reviewed it so highly. Same goes for the Zoo comment on the back of the box. Zoo is also a sponsor.

What about play taking the reviews off of their games! They are offering 50 grand in prize money. Obviously they need to shift a good few copys to cover that. Has any one noticed they have taken the reviews off of the games. You've got to believe that they've just done this to hide the hundreds of extremly bad Pro Evo reviews. Help them shift a few more copies.

Pro Evo 2008 on the PS3 is like playing Pro Evo 6 on a fifteen year old PC.

A DAMNED DISGRACE!!!
