Stylish Home cinema
Well impressed with my first home cinema purchase.Setting up was a bit fiddly, particularly the remote control but none the less the unit can be up and working in minutes.
The speakers blend in nicely with any room size without being too obtrusive.Awesome sound can be achieved by this relatively small speaker package despite its low price tag.
Optical to Sky sounds great and no real lip-sync issues, the timings can be adjusted if you encounter any issues?
DVD's are front or top loaded dependant on how you position the unit, the quality is top notch at a setting of 1080i upscaling standard DVD's via HDMI is real class and again no problems with stutter. The drive itself is extremely quiet and build quality appears good. A couple more inputs would have been good but you can't have everything and there are USB and 3.5mm jacks on the side that I haven't made the most of yet.
Thrilled with the purchase and would recommend anyone searching for an all in 1 Home cinema with a big sound and little budget go for it you won't be disappointed.
Nice but has a a couple of irritations
As stated previously its stylish and packs quite a punch for a small unit.
The remote control is confusing and the manual lacks in detail in places.
I particularly wanted the Anynet function to integrate with the Samsung TV. This works well with it turning off when the TV turns off, and adjusting the volume through the TV controls - but it does not turn ON when the TV is turned on - crazy!.
Also it is not immediately clear how to get it to up-convert to 1080i or 720p when playing DVDs. Once discovered this produces some stunning pictures - BUT this setting is reset to 570p when the USB or picture CD is used - again this seems illogical.
And I think something is wrong with mine as the DV.IN sound (used for listening to the TV through the cinema sound facility cuts off after about 15 mins of running and you have to reselect the source to restore the sound.
[EDIT] Samsung customer support has confirmed this is a known problem when using this Samsung Surround Sound Unit with a Samsung M87 TV. They are working on a solution.
samsung flop!!
bought system end of sept 2007, looked very smart next to my samsung lcd, superb picture and sound. Worked ok until January ,then required new laser unit, been faulty twice since then , Samsung will not replace the unit, lady in Samsung customer service very unhelpfull. Not impressed with Samsung service at all.
