Manufacturer's Description
Dead Rising follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, an overly zealous freelance photojournalist on the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a juicy lead, he makes his way to a small suburban town only to find that it has become overrun by zombies. He escapes to the local shopping mall, thinking it will be a bastion of safety yet it turns out to be anything but. It will be a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but players will have full reign of a realistic shopping centre, utilizing anything they find to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.
Dead Rising features an open level of freedom and offers a vast array of gameplay possibilities. As part of a real time system, time is dynamic in Dead Rising, marching on whether Frank is actively engaged or if simply stationary. Time also plays a role as zombies become more powerful when the sun goes down. Though they move slowly during the day, the zombies become stronger and faster at night, making it even more dangerous for players to survive. The unprecedented numbers of enemies come in never-ending waves and consist of a diverse population of former humans that have retained some memory of their previous lives, which is reflected in their behaviour and appearance. The variety of different stores in the mall offers players an endless supply of resources including vehicles, makeshift weapons and more. Players will also encounter other survivors along the way and by helping them can acquire valuable clues as to what has happened.

Bit of a let down
I read the reviews on Amazon and was very excited, but the game is pretty annoying. Maybe I don't get it, but I seem to have to start at the beginning every time I die? How does that make sense? In the "Back up for Brad" mission there is a guy hiding in some signage that you have to literally shoot 150 or 200 times, and it's really incredibly tedious. What is going on? I'd rather just wander round and bash zombies - slashing them with a Katana was hilarious, but after a while I was starting to feel like there should be more too it, it was impossible to rescue anyone (eg a girl attacked by 3 hoodlums on a humvee mounting a machine gun, surrounded by zombies, and you have to rescue her in 30 seconds using a shovel or whatever) and you should be able to save your progrees through a mission!
I'll be going to bash some zombies again though, and to see if there really is any point to this game besides the occasional chuckle. Exploring was also fun, but the missions seem to be pretty tedious and unrewarding.
I didn't get GTA either by the way, but My favourite game is probably Mercenaries, so I'm not anti the "open-ended" concept.
Good while it lasts
Dead rising is a very good game and is a lot of fun to play but afder few hours or days it will get very dull.I would rent this and buy call of duty 4
If You Like Killing Zombies This Is The Game For You
This is my son's game. It has a very straight forward game play, basically rescue the survivors and kill the zombies that get in your way. It is quite blood thirsty (so not a game I would play) but my son thinks it is really good.
