Customer Reviews
Dont Bother
I'e had this for a few months now, and it frequently locks up - the only way to fix it is to remove the battery and re-boot it.
Sometimes the touch screen works fine, but appears to not send any commands out to any of my components.
Trying to speak to logitech's customer support is beyond a joke.
I find the touch screen is sometimes slow to respond, and the device just doesnt feel natual to use.
Hopefully, its going back for a refund
Apple OSX Leopard Compatible
Has the problem with Apple OSX Leopard been rectified or is it sill not compatible?
not bad, but you should probably go for the Harmony One instead
I bought this recently, and was quite pleased with it - setup was trivial, taking about 30 mins or so - most of that downloading and updating the software and figuring out the model numbers of my various pieces of hardware. I had 4 remotes to mimic, and two basic operations (watch DVDs, play music), and having the remote control them was very simple.
Where the remote falls down is the reliance on the touchscreen and the general shape; if you want to fast forward through a movie, for example, you need to hold the remote in one hand, find the right key on the screen with your other hand, and then keep casting your eyes back and forth from the remote to the TV to make sure that your finger is still on the right button and that you still want to forward through the movie - this would be less of a problem with a narrower device where you could hold it and operate it with one hand. The lack of positive feedback is a huge negative (that I didn't really think about before trying the harmony 1000).
If you tend to start watching a dvd (or playing music or whatever) and then don't touch the remote till you're done, the harmony 1000 will be great; if, like me, you like to fast forward/rewind etc. all the time, then you will probably quickly become frustrated.
Additionally, because the touch screen contains most of the functions (far more use could have been made of the button pannel to the right of the screen, IMO), and the buttons have to be quite large, you also have the problem of having to switch through a large number of screens to access different types of operations - the playback controls on one page, number buttons on another, general functions on another (or rather more likely 6 other pages); I'm sure that with time and patience you could arrange the buttons in a better way, but I had neither.
In the end I gave the Harmony 1000 to a friend and replaced it with a Harmony One; a more recent and much more user friendly device - cheaper too.
The Harmony 1000 looks great, and does pretty much what you expect of it, but before buying, consider how you use your remotes; if you fiddle a lot, then get one with real buttons.
Oh the customer service is fantastic; answered the call after a couple of rings, went straight to the help, and the rep answered my questions and fixed my problems immediately. Great service.
