Zero Bright Dot screen for optimal screen quality

Enjoy highest-quality images that are free from annoying blank spots on the LCD screen. LCD displays commonly have imperfections, termed as 'bright dots' by the LCD industry. A limited number of bright dots were once considered an inevitable side effect of LCD mass production. With Philips' strict quality control procedures used in our Portable DVD Players, our LCD displays are produced with zero tolerance for bright dots. Select Portable DVD Players come with Philips Zero Bright Dot Policy to guarantee optimal screen quality.

Dolby Digital for ultimate movie experience

Because Dolby Digital, the world's leading digital multi-channel audio standards, make use of the way the human ear naturally processes sound, you experience superb quality surround sound audio with realistic spatial cues.

    One minor weakness?5
There are a great many excellent reviews of DCP750 elsewhere on the Web and all of them extolling the features of this very capable, feature-packed and highly attractive portable DVD are true. It was its compatibility with the 5.5 Ipod, which I also possess, and the fact that it will accept certain types of memory card found in modern digital cameras, that was the deciding factor for me. I purchased a DCP750 at a greatly discounted price from Amazon in 2007 and this little player has proven to be extremely reliable. I don't mind the 7" inch screen, but since it's release last year, a larger screen version has become available, the DCP850. The latest version is bigger, heavier and not quite so pocketable.

The overall design does have one apparent weakness though, and that is it cannot charge its own internal battery whilst playing from an external power source, AC/DC. The DCP750 will charge an Ipod if one has been placed in the recess designed to take the clever IR remote control. In mitigation, the internal battery does charge quickly and one charge will provide around 150 minutes of play time. The DCP750 will happily run indefinitely from an external power source but in order to charge its battery the DCP750 needs to be switched from PLAY to CHARGE. I suspect the DCP750 would need a more powerful inbuilt charger to both charge and operate it simultaneously and that additional power requirement would add weight and size to this already class-leading, lightweight DVD player.

I do not use the DCP750 on internal battery power very often so the weakness does not bother me. I have given '5 stars' based upon its overall performance, features and thoughtfulness of design.

Nice portable player, can be made multiregion (instructions)5
This portable player has good quality audio and picture, and, unusually for a portable player, a pretty nice remote control with number buttons on it, which fits nicely into the ipod dock.

I don't have an ipod so haven't checked that feature.

The battery is non-removable, which makes this portable lighter than many. Also the screen can be swivelled right round and put flat on top of the body of the machine, which is convenient to hold.

Most importantly for me (I bought this because attempts to make my old portable player multiregion failed miserably!), it can be handset hacked to play DVDs from all regions as follows:

    press setup
navigate to the preferences page using the right arrow.
    type 9 6 5 3
select region using the up and down arrows (select 0 for multi-region)
    press ok

    :)
