Editorial Reviews

Manufacturer's Description:
Pangya Golf’s style and character turns the grand old walk of golf on its head. From its ingenious costumes to its freaky caddies, Tecmo's first Wii effort distances itself from the stuffiness associated with golf tradition.

The gameplay in Pangya Golf, however, does a great job of mixing style and fun with golf simulation. Although players can use special shots on occasion and some courses house some unusual obstacles, the golf itself and course design will challenge those who are really into golf sims.

The big difference between Pangya Golf and other traditional golf games is the use of the Wii Remote controller. Once you're ready to swing, you move the Remote forward to address the ball. Then, you start your backswing by moving the controller as you would a club. The power meter at the bottom of the screen shows you how far back you need to go to achieve maximum power. Once the meter matches the power with which you want to swing, you press the A Button and hold it.

If you deliver a perfect follow through, the word "Pangya" appears on-screen to celebrate your hit, and you collect Pang. You also collect Pang for winning matches and making great shots. With this Pang, gamers can buy new clothes and gear in the shop. Pang is also required to upgrade your character's abilities. Plus, the game keeps track of a good number of statistics, including time spent playing and approximate calories burned.

Pleasantly silly, but a solid game!4
This isn't some stiff formal golf game - this is the way golf SHOULD be played! Daft characters, cool outfits, ridiculous equipment, insane caddies, and just a smattering of super-powers. Yep, this is a lot of FUN! Don't be put off tho - underneath the beautiful, detailed, COLOURFUL courses and the eccentric characters who play on them, there is a rock solid simulation. Do the tutorials, get the basics, and you're away. But practice, practice, practice and you'll realise that this is a top notch game that benefits from a smooth swing and some strategic thinking. It might be a bit tough for some players (in the same way that Wii Sports Golf was) but like all genres, golf games will suit some and not others. But this is a terrific game that will suit both fun play and more serious play. Highly recommended!

Great golf game4
Me, I'm not really a golf person, but having played everybodies golf, and having read magazine reviews for this game I decided I would go out and buy it. I was not disappointed.
First things first DO THE TUTORIAL! That is the best piece of advice I can give-you will not pick this game up naturally (even if you think you will.) Basically, there is a lot to this game. Firstly it plays like real golf, and this is reflected by the game, if you veer of slightly, so will the ball, if you hit it too high or low, this will affect your play. But the game, after the tutorial really picks up.
The graphics are trully beautiful, but a little cartoony if that upset you. I didn't really notice the music, so I wouldn't say that it's special, but what i did notice, is just how deep the game actually is.
Firstly you have stories for each character (and more than one at that,) There is Pangya (money) you earn that you can use in the shop, and there is a huge variety of customisation for each character available including clubs, balls, clothes, accessories etc. Then of course there is stroke play and Vs mode, so the game keeps you going.
Negatives, TOO sensetive, it is HARD to hit a good shot.
Second. It's only golf, if you're after variation, be prepared to be disappointed. However, this is a great game to add to you're collection if you just want something light and easy.

Much better than I thought4
After seeing very mixed reviews for this game, and hearing a lot of negative comments on forums I still decided to try it out.

I'm glad I did, it's very enjoyable and I can forgive the issues with it. The main problems are that you can't skip past the computer's turns when playing one player which on an 18 hole course means it can take a while. Also we've found when playing as a left-handed player the character on screen still stands the 'right' way round.

However, the control system is very good and I'm now getting Pangya shots more often than not. The putting control is much better than Wii Sports Golf, although for some reason they've decided to show the slope on the green using dots in squares?? This does take some getting used to - if they'd used the zoom in option that's in Sports then it would be perfect.

We bought this primarily as we are very into sports Golf but were getting bored of the holes available. The courses in Pangya are much more interesting.

The multi player games are great fun, especially balloon pop - pop as many floating balloons as you can with the ball, while your opponents can use various items to put you off by drawing on the screen, making wind etc.

So overall I gave it four stars because of the issues mentioned above, but it's still well worth buying.
