Best in Genre
Unfortunately, Empire inexplicably decided to release FlatOut at the same time as Forza 2 and DiRT, meaning that this one may have slipped under the radar. Don't let the low profile nature of this game put you off: this is the best game in the crash 'em up genre to date. The graphics are wonderful, with an accomplished physics engine and a decent variety of cars to race and smash up. Gameplay is strong, with the only downside being that the replays, which should be a centrepiece of such a game, are one-dimensional.

It may not last long, but this is a really fun game while it lasts. Along with the sturdy gameplay, there are another two reasons to buy this: 1) the low price and 2) the fact that that Bugbear are going head-to-head with Criterion/EA's BurnOut series and currently FlatOut is the better of the two, with BurnOut Paradise to follow in the autumn.

Although Criterion's offering is looking good, you can play FlatOut now, and believe me it's worth serious consideration as one of the most fun games on 360.

If you even nearly like driving games, this is a no brainer. Fast, fun, crashes, revenge, breaking glass, flying debris, water in your eyes so you can't see, HUGE jumps, barrel rolls, shopping malls, greenhouses, fields of corn, tumbling boulders, rings of fire, swimming pools, cars with three wheels, explosions, petrol stations, cars on top of each other, donuts, tyres bouncing everywhere, basketball hoops, shopping trolleys, rubbish bins, white picket fences, oil slicks, drivers hurtling through windscreens...

Pure genius.

Fantastic game but its NOT Flatout 3. Just an update.
This is brilliant. It's full of spectacular crashes, it's very exciting & looks very nice. & the fact that you have 11 opponents makes for a compelling race. My only complaint is that this is too similar to FLATOUT 2 on the original Xbox. Bugbear is a great game developer, having made FLATOUT 1 & 2, which I own & love. So I did expect a completely new range of cars to drive, plus new tracks as well. I have not completed the game yet, & maybe something new will reveal itself. But nothing so far !! So I was disappointed that this game is not a brand new package. Nevertheless, I have bought the game, & it's very addictive & I love it. I was really hoping to give this 5 stars....but only 4 because of the similarity to FLATOUT 2.
But if you like racing games with a stock car racing/ destruction derby theme, then FLATOUT ULTIMATE CARNAGE is an essential purchase !!!
