Customer Reviews
Finally a Vista compatible adaptor!
Just a quick note, more of a recommendation than a review in truth!
I have been using a Netgear DG834GT at home for over 12 months and its great, however I recently updated my laptop (with Dell) and it arrived with windows Vista, great, or not as the case maybe!
I use (or did) a standard wifi USB dongle, however while it is compatible with Windows 2000/XP and so on there was no download available for Vista and in my ignorance I had not given compatibility a second thought. Long story short I was recommended to try the WG111 by a college and it's great! 2 mins to install and your away wireless again on Vista, absolute life saver! Many thanks again to the folks at Netgear.
Not great range
Bought this for my desktop. I have my PC upstairs and the Netgear router is downstairs but this wireless adapter seems to drop the connection quite a lot. It especially doesn't like it if theres another wireless device in the near vacinity. But saying that when it does have a connection it's not too bad. I'm sure there are better available though.
Easy Install with a few niggles.
The main problem with this product is the included CD doesn't have the Vista version on it.
if you have Vista installed you have to go to the netgear website and download the Vista version before you can continue.
The software takes you step by step through the install and setting up of your adapter.
It then gives you the option of setting up your network connection using it's own software or using Windows own configuration.
It found my network , asked me for a few details (password etc) and then connected me , this would be good for a novice trying to install a wireless network.
The adapter has been working fine since , I've had no problems connecting or to my home network and transfer speeds seem fairly good.
Another small niggle is the software puts it's own monitoring software in the system tray , when your PC starts under Vista you continually get asked to allow it to run.
Removing that software from the startup folder makes your connection disconnect and the settings get lost.
In the end I removed the monitoring software by deleting it's entry from the startup folder and manually connected vista to the network.
Overall a decent product with a few 'niggles' that could be addressed in the included software.
