COD4
when i first heard the COD4 was to be set in modern battle i thought that it would tarnish the reputation of the other COD games. however i am delighted to be wrong the graphics and game play are excellent, you can get so imersed in the game that you suddenly wonder where the day has gone. there is only one problem which is of no really consequence to the overall rating of the game or the game play and that is changing fire modes, no COD game has had it yet and it is really starting to annoy me. but apart from that it is a first rate game.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
As a great fan of the WWII series call of duty, I was very dissapointed to see that this one is based in modern times. I really enjoyed Call of Duty 2 and 3 but this just ruined to for me. The graphics are rubbish, the campaign is crap and the multiplayer is even worse since there are no online achievments! Halo 3 is a much better buy!
Far too much undeserved praise for a very short and average FPS
This review is for single player only.
I would like to know the answer to one question: how has this game got such great reviews? I'm not kidding when I say free demos of games used to be as long as this £40 - £50 game.
What do you get for your money? Well obviously not a lot. And it could have been even shorter were it not for a few tricks the developers appear to have got away with. Like for instance on one particular map the mission was to run to the top of a hill (no idea why) lob 3 or 4 explosives out of a barn window, and then run all the way back down the very same hill. Hilarious!
Another trick the developers used to avoid making a decent number of maps was to set certain missions at night and then re-use the very same map but this time during the day. Lol!
I also find it a cheap trick to put count-down timers on maps to create excitement and tension. If a game is good it doesn't need this contrived nonsense.
Apart from the graphics, which are good and on a par with many modern games, COD 4 has not developed since COD 2 and lags miles behind innovative games such as Rainbow 6 and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. I've got to wonder what on earth was the point of being part of a team when there was no actual interaction or control over those team mates? Baffling.
Finally setting COD4 in modern times was just one more slight of hand trick. It gave the game a veneer of newness where there was none whatsoever. COD 4 is not terrible, sometimes it`s fun. It's just nothing new, or innovative or exceptional. Just one more samey FPS.
