Installation is a snap because you don't really "install" this drive; you just plug it in and it's ready to use. There is no CD to install; the included software loads from the drive the first time you plug it in. Powered by the USB bus, so no separate power supply needed.

USB device not recognised
Just Reading through the review's for the western digital passport & I am glad to see that most people seem to be happy with the drive. I personaly would not recommend this drive, I bought it about 9 months ago and after 2 months it just stopped working, getting message USB device not recognised, I have tried it on four different computers XP & Vista all with the same reply. A workmate had the same drive & had the same problem a few months before, tried sending a couple of e-mails to western digital with no reply, P.S. I Have since bought the Freecom Toughdrive, had it for about eight months with no problems & have since bought a second one, if you are looking for a hard drive this is the one I would recommend.
Very quiet drive!
I bought this for use with an NSLU2 network storage link. It runs fine from USB power, reducing cable tangle. Most importantly, it is virtually silent. I had it in my living room running constantly for months. It is inaudible, even on a quiet Sunday morning. It might be slightly slower than a noisy full size drive, but that has not been a problem. Also, it looks nice! I have been very satisfied with this product.
Lightweight Mega-storage
My old 120GB portable HD was full and needed replacing so after a little research I chose to buy this portable HD and I wasn't disappointed.
250GB is massive for a 2.5" drive and while it is expensive in comparison to 3.5" powered HDs (you can buy at least 500GBs for the same price), portable HDs always are.
It looks sleek and classy. Unfortunately it's a bit of a fingerprint magnet (black, glossy) which made the lack of a case or sleeve for the drive very disappointing.
It weighs about the same as my wallet and has been sturdy (dropped it a couple of times already and it's had a few knocks in the old laptop case, but no faults as of yet)and in my experience WD HDs can generally take a fair amount of clumsiness and are top in terms of lastability.
It's definitely worth the extra expense over a 120GB Portable (presuming you need the space). Fast, pretty and sturdy. Just wish it came with a case/sleeve.
