an absolute must
I find the remote control something I can't do without, driving and having to lean over to touch the screen is so unsafe and impractical. I owned a go 700 and it came with a remote control in the box so am used to use the remote when I drive, but I was EXTREMELY disappointed when I bought the new 720 that this was not included in the box, tomtom charges enough for it as it is and it is an absolute joke you have to buy the remote separately!
REMOTE REVIEW
Works well, abit anoying to place the battery inside. Instructions not clear at all on where to apply opening pressure. Watch out if your battery in your tomtom is low, cause the tomtom will automatically switch off the bluetooth in order to save battery time. And like me you may like to run down your tomtom battery to preserve it from "battery memory effect".
Quick tip, keep your finger on the middle button above the volume keys to go straight to the shortcuts menu.
TOMTOM please, please, please place a freaking mute button on the remote, Or allow the volume to go all the way down to mute. Not everyone needs instructions shouted out all the time. And then having to go through the menu to mute it all the time.
TomTom the company are a joke
Having owned a TomTom 700 for some time a few months ago I bought a TomTom 720. I realised that TomTom had downgraded the product so that the remote control was no longer included but wasn't put off because the price is now a lot lower and the remote is available seperately. I was intrigued to see if my old remote would work but no, TomTom have changed the way it works. So I went ahead and ordered a TomTom remote. I ordered on the 1st Sept witha delivery estimate of 2 to 4 weeks. That came and went and I got an email from Amazon saying it was delayed and would be with me at the ned of October. I have just received another email from Amazon saying that it is delayed again - this time to April 2008. This is as good as saying the product doesn't exist. I have no faith in the new delivery date and speaking to other retailers and TomTom themsleves I can't get any sense at all. I'm pretty annoyed because it TomTom\Amazon had of been honest up front then I wouldn't have bought the TomTom. One retailer advsied me "This is typical of TomTom, my advise is never buy a TomTom product unless you know they physically have it on the shelf - he even stated that he was not prepared to take my order unless they physically have stock, even for current products because TomTom's supply chain is atrocious"
