Brilliant gadget
This charger is great for my keeping around my desk - it does charge AA batteries but you need to move the pin from AAA to AA. The pack comes with 4 AAA as described. Ignore the other reviews - this product is great, incredibly cheap and from a trusted brand that means its going to last.
THE REAL TRUTH
THIS DEFINITIVELY **DOES** CHARGE AA BATTERIES. holliegh drake needs better glasses.
i will concede that he - and you - would need a microscope to read the instructions; i've had to hi-res scan them to get a readable on-screen copy.
i will also concede that the instructions - when you've finished magnifying them - do tell you ONLY how to switch to AAA charging mode, and don't specifically mention how to switch to AA charging mode. what they say is: "to charge AAA batteries, flip down the contact brackets before inserting the batteries". [fascinatingly, this instruction comes just AFTER the instruction to "insert batteries" - just BEFORE would be more helpful! who writes this stuff?] they DON'T actually say: "to charge AA batteries, flip UP the contact brackets before inserting the batteries". but you don't really need to be einstein to figure this one out.
and it works!! brilliantly.
so no stars for the instructions - but five for the product!
nb: this charger works off a usb port. this usually needs the computer to be left switched on. and since the charger is rather slow, that might mean overnight. but one tip: you CAN switch the computer to stand-by, which powers many other things off, but leaves usb ports still powered. (to do this: use WINDOWS START button, select "turn off computer", but then select "STAND-BY" ...)
one more clarification - it does come with AAA batteries, but that is how it is described - see the photo. the review from P. Edwards is untrue (perhaps just out of date).
final summary - you get 4 AAA batteries, no AA batteries, and 1 charger, which is able to charge either type.
alles klar??
Good so far
Have now had this approx 2 weeks and so far so good. I had previously bought the "Uniross Charger Xpress 300", which worked for a grand total of 5 minutes, and never again after!! So I was dissappointed and hesitant about buying a recharger and had more or less resigned myself to a life of the eco-unfriendly but nevertheless ubiquitous disposables. But I saw this, read the overall favourable reviews, and thought that I'd gamble a fiver! And so far I am impressed! Though early days, it has already outlived my Uniross Charger Xpress 300 by a thousand miles!!! Once bitten twice shy!
I would recommend getting a USB extension cable, as depending on the model of the computer and where/how the USB slots are located, this recharger won't fit into the slot, as it is quite broad near the pin. That's why I'm deducting one star...no fault of the actual gadget, just a physical compatibility issue of actually fitting into the slot in some computer models...otherwise I would have given this 5 stars!
Overall excellent (so far)!
