Manufacturer's Description
NETGEAR's DG834N RangeMax" NEXT wireless ADSL modem router provides maximum coverage and bandwidth, enabling you and your entire household to simultaneously connect to multiple Internet services and online media.

To explain the capabilities of this RangeMax" NEXT wireless modem router further: Imagine connecting to the Internet from anywhere in the house, without a cable. Then imagine everyone in the house connecting at the same time, and all doing things online or over the network - all at the same time: Watching a Hi-Definition video or TV programme in the living room, browsing the Internet in the study, playing online games in the den, downloading MP3 music from the dining room - all at the same time. This is what RangeMax" NEXT is capable of, all over a single home.

The DG834N Wireless Modem Router utilises a technology called 'Steady-Stream', which ensures your wireless network offers a steady constant connection, with sufficient bandwidth available to stream, download, browse the Internet and transfer files all at the same time. With RangeMax NEXT you should not experience any more frustrating interruptions or freezes, just a constant connection that enables you and your household to use the Internet and wireless network as you choose, whenever you choose.

Touchless WiFi Security makes creating the highest level of network security easy and includes industry standard wireless encryption standards for you to choose from: WEP, WPA-PSK, or WPA2-PSK. These security features enable you to 'lock-down' your home wireless network, protecting you against unwanted intruders. With the RangeMax" NEXT Notebook adapter inserted, your PC will maintain a steady, constant connection (when used in conjunction with the WNR834B or DG834N Wireless Router), with sufficient bandwidth available to stream, download, browse the Internet, and transfer files all at the same time.

    Terrible choice1
This was a disastrous purchase. Amazon, as ever, have bailed me out by taking it back - but it's been hell in the meantime. There seem to be a mix of reviews here. For some people, this machine works fine. But if you are in the sizeable unlucky minority you are in for endless phone calls with the well meaning but ultimately useless folk at the tech call-centre ... who will have you tinker with all 480 independent settings on this thing, without so much as a flicker of improvement. Don't go near it. Not worth the risk. My 4 year old Belkin is a massive improvement.

    Netgear- trashgear more like1
    well what can i say
on the positive side, it looks nice sitting on my desk, all white and shiny with one LED working.

on the negative, it doesn't work! it did for precisely 10 days but then gave up. when it did the ethernet part worked well, the wifi did not have a signal consistently and was extremely poor when it did.

the customer service is so poor i do not want to continue writing as this will anger me more for the hours spent on a premium phone line to eventually be told that the unit is faulty.

never never never again will i buy anything from netgear

    Went back to my DG834G1
Having recently moved house to a newer property, I had noticed that my DG834G was beginning to struggle to transmit throughout the house. There was also an annoying 'lag' which meant that my connection seemed to take 3 or 4 seconds to kick in to action.

So, I decided to invest in a brand new router, with a stronger signal and better bandwidth. My old Netgear was fine on the whole so I decided to stay with the brand and purchase their top of the range DG834N router.

Whoops. Sadly, the DG834N just did not do what it claimed to do.

Signal strength was not great, in fact my Airport failed to pick it up most of the time (even though it is "N" enabled). Even when it did, the connection was like dial-up, and with even worse lag than my old DG834G router.

I tinkered with the setup for about 4 days solid, changing channels (the router apparently has an "auto" setting which will pick out the strongest channel to transmit - this didn't work), etc, but to no avail.

So I dug out my previous DG834G, and it worked miles better, even though I had duplicated the settings on both.

Sadly therefore, I have sent it back to Amazon as it just did not do what I expected it to. I am still on the lookout for a better router, unfortunately this wasn't the one to fix my problems.

I therefore cannot personally recommend it sorry..
