Customer Reviews

Buy it for HD and not SD4
I researched the spec on this TV through the Trusted Reviews site who's experts gave it an 8/10. I was expecting in advance that all transmissions will be HD in the future and so for the value at the time(Sept 07), 720 pounds sterling was a good deal. I wanted a screen that had no reflection or glass appearance as our lounge gets a lot of sunlight.
From my own findings:
The TV can easily cope with the highest quality signal I can throw at it(Upscaled 1080p DVD from a Pioneer LV610AV-K thru HDMI). I do not doubt it can handle a Blue-Ray source with good results as the TR experts proved. I have witnessed some stunning pictures on standard def from my standard digital sky box (scart) but these were from good transmissions sent out buy the particular channel. These were namely programmes like 'Top Gear' and 'Coast' that have the BBC quality to do so.
Its apprearance is classy either on or on stand-by (you can't switch it off completely without pulling the plug out), from which I liked the thin profile edge around the screen to give the look of a bigger screen. My wife tells me of her surprise that it does not collect dust like other household objects? Perhaps, it has some anti-static properties we dont know about, or maybe the fact I have mounted on the wall has helped?
All its menu options are nicely presented and very user friendly for adjustment. I have only had to adjust the colour temperature slightly warmer as the default settings were rather bright and I prefere skin colours to be true to natural as possible. The remote is good and responsive and still looking new with no signs of any wear in the year and a half we have had it. Having 2 HDMI inputs and a good collection of all the other input types is found easy and quick to change/switch on the menu options.
I have only just given it 4 stars for these minor issues I have found to date:
The printed manual supplied is very basic indeed, effectively just a set up instruction in all the languages imaginable. It has no details on adjustments or advice on what the TV can achieve. I have just had to play and search with the screen menus to find out what it can do. The disc supplied boasts it contains advanced Manual features so I will endeavour to look again to see the extent of them (no good if you havent got a PC).
The other tut I occasionally mutter is when the screen changes its veiwing ratio from 'full' to 'zoom' on its own accord and peoples faces are instantly stretched out of shape, this seems to happen from the transmission. It can put to bed if you remember to set the ratio to an aspect that suits the programme you are about to watch. I found that DVDs and Movies are best on "Spectacle' or '16:9' and Sport Matches and News are best on 'Full'. Pity the TV doesnt do this automatically. The built in freeview struggles with any signal that is not mega-strong. Out of the 45-60 channels I should get, only 28 register, even with a new huge digital aerial fitted.
One thing this 42inch TV has no suprises with,is that any poor SD signal received looks dreadful on screen. Dont even bother watching ITV football SD broadcasts as the players movement is blurred enough to want to go upstairs and watch the analogue portable instead.
However, because of is HD capabilities I have rated it a 4 as it will come into its own when SD is no more. It had the highest spec and performance for the price bracket in the market, and that is why I bought it.
