Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Debut solo album from former Del Amitri frontman Justin Currie. A darker, lusher record than the work Currie is better known for, this album is a bold artistic statement, and is sure to win him many new fans. Includes the tracks 'Gold Dust' and 'Out Of Control'.
Customer Reviews
As close to perfection as it gets
If you want perfectly crafted songs, Justin is still a man you can go to. This is a gem on an album and it deserves to be heard. The melodies are achingly beautiful and the lyrics are both tender and true. The cynical edge remains on songs like 'Something in that Mess' and the wonderfully dark 'Where Did I go?'. Out of My Control is simply a perfect pop song and 'Gold Dust' will go around your head for days. The album ends on the touchingly defiant 'No Surrender', which has us reflecting on the need to keep stocking up the fridge and why we would need personal goal shoppers- some brilliant lines in this rant of a song. Best of all though is the heart wrenching moment at the end of 'What is love for?. Buy this album, you won't be disapponted. Every song hits home, line by line; heartache, loss and what it is like to really live with someone by your side in this world or else cope without them. What else is there?
Well worth the wait!
With so much pap in the charts these days, it's hard to understand why Justin struggled to get a record deal. The man is an amazing talent. If you are a Del Amitri fan - or simply a fan of gimmick free good music - then you won't be dissapointed with this.
More melancholy and reflective than a Del Amitri album, this is Justin at his very best.
More B Sides
I mean this as a compliment. The songs sound a lot like the Del Amitri B Sides that graced the singles from the Waking Hours/Change Everything era. (This included my favourite Dels song, Another Letter Home).
What you have here is stripped back, beautifully crafted songs, with a simple uncluttered, largely acoustic arrangement. The songs have something to say and they say it well. I've heard the songs described as 'heavy hearted'and that about covers it. Not depressing but dealing with some of the bleaker aspects of life from loss of love, rejection and bereavement to a general disillusion with society. Whether he does or not, we'll never know, but Justin sounds like he is singing from bitter experience and he means every word. Soulful, moving and engaging.
If you liked Del Amitri you will not be disappointed and if your are just a fan of great songs you'll be hard pushed to do better than this.
