Decent laptop for home use
I've found that this laptop is good enough for most of my use at home. It's used for Internet browsing, word-processing, blog posting as well as using with my ipod.
My only gripe would be the touchpad. It doesn't have a good feel and is not very accurate. A bluetooth mouse would be ideal with this.
Pros: Very nice design, perfect size (15.4" screens are too big IMHO), nice amount of RAM and Bluetooth as standard
Cons: Touchpad is erratic and feels too smooth.
Decent laptop, but not perfect.
Let me first say that this laptop suits my needs. I have a desktop PC for power, speed, video editing, gaming etc - this laptop is not the fastest.
The laptop itself is well designed and is packed with features and functionality. It will do (almost) anything you ask of it (games players look elsewhere) and is a decent all round performer. As well as core 2 duo, it has 2Gb RAM, 160Gb hard drive, multi-DVD writer with Lightscribe, Vista Home Premium, Works 8, IR remote control, HDMI and S-Video ports, 14.1" screen, webcam with light, stereo microphone, built in wi-fi & Bluetooth, and more besides.
Pros: Very well specced; small and portable (but not too small to work on); fast battery recharge; smart, modern design; good brand; price.
Cons: Not the fastest processor or hard drive; screen lid could be tougher; reasonably poor battery life (a bigger battery is available extra); basic graphic chip (don't buy if you want a PC for graphic intensive tasks); keyboard needs a heavy typing action.
Verdict: HP has made a computer that will appeal to people who want a laptop that can do a bit of everything. It is a jack of all trades and good enough at most of them. If, like me, you are in the market for a laptop that will do general tasks but also have another PC for the more powerful stuff, then this is for you. If you're not really into computers but want one for email, MP3's, photo editing, surfing the net, writing letters, doing your accounts etc, this is for you. Gamers, video editors, business users should look elsewhere. This laptop is a usable size, modern, has everything that most of us will need and is a decent price.
Good Looking: Disappointing Performance and Reliability
I have an HP Desktop Computer and also Printer and have generally found their products to be reliable and of good quality. However, this computer is very well specified and ticks all the right boxes. It looks great and has an excellent screen and sound quality. However, with regard to more practical considerations it is disappointing performance...slow and very poor battery life, especially when compared to my previous Toshiba and its reliability is poor, with frequent crashes. So overall it can only merit at best 2*
